No prizes for what series I am currently streaming on Netflix. I won't lie, it has been nearly two years now and I am still not all that into Breaking Bad. Time to call it a day?
Before we all let out a collective groan this is not a resolution post, was I inspired by the new year to kick start my beauty routine yes but really kicking certain "bad" beauty habits has been a long time coming. My idea is that if I somewhat shame or out myself then I will be more geared up into somewhat changing. Here is what I am guilty of, play along at home. If you get five or more feel free to call Bingo. As a side note I have never played Bingo so I have no idea if that quip is at all relevant.
Picking at My Split Ends
Hopefully this doesn't come across too braggy but as someone with waist length hair my ends aren't all that bad. They are thick (much like the rest of my hair) and do get trimmed fairly regularly but one of my less than savoury past times is searching through my hair for split ends to break off. I know it isn't great for my hair and will more than likely be the result of further damage and yet I can't but find myself picking away. Pretty gross huh.
Raking My Hands Through My Hair to Find Loose Hairs
Again with the hair! I hate finding hairs on my clothing, part of the problem is that I have blonde hair and a penchant for black clothing - you do the math. Loose hair will fall out naturally or when I come to brush it, there really is no need for me to do this, all I am doing is making my roots greasy and leaving stray hair everywhere. One word. Yuck.
Biting My Nail Polish Off
I am one of those people who shouldn't have pretty things. As soon as I paint my nails I am already contemplating picking or biting it off. I am the exact same should I get nail extensions all I want to do is bite them off from the moment they have cured. When you have chubby hands and sausage fingers like I do you really need all the help you can get so it is beyond me why I enjoy making my hands all that much uglier.
Picking Off My Mascara
Can you say rank? I have long, straight eyelashes which I do tend to coat in mascara, sometimes I find myself picking at any clumps which more often than not brings away an eyelash or two. As I have fairly sparse eyelashes (probably due to my picking) it is time I nipped this in the bud.
"Forgetting" to Moisturise My Body
I happily slap moisturiser on my face several times a day for fear of premature ageing and of course further dehydrating my skin and yet I can find the time to slather some on my limbs. What is the point in attempting to keep my complexion youthful if the rest of me ends up being haggard before my time.
Are you guilty of any of the above?
Do you want to confess to any other "bad" beauty habits.
I realise, after reading out the above two sentences that this paragraph reads a little like a P.P.I advert ha! If anyone is curious how I plan on curbing some of the above, the answer thus far has been crocheting. It was one of my New Years resolutions to learn a new craft so to speak and this seems to kill two birds with one stone: new hobby and something to keep my hands busy.
I forget to put on body lotion all the time! And yes, I always pick at my mascara too.. I also like to pick at my patchy skin when it gets dry... though my skin is actually combination oily.

I forget to moisturising my body all the time! And I'm guilty at picking at my split ends, it's a bad habit! x
ReplyDeleteFARFROMPERFECTIONXO
I'm guilty of the last two: picking off my mascara and 'forgetting' to moisturize my body. I think I'm one of the few people who has never bit my nails!

Same for me, I always run my hand through my hair and end up losing more of my hair. Great post <3 xo

I always 'forget' to moisturise my body, but I can't go a day without a rigorous facial regime. I'm also terrible at using hand cream, I hate dry hands but I hate the feeling of cream on my hands. Can't win! Also don't give up on Breaking Bad, I promise you its amazing and worth sticking with.
ReplyDeleteI pick my nailpolish off constantly - its a really bad habit. My nails are weak because of it. I also 'forget' to moisturise all the time haha!
ReplyDeleteI am so guilty of not moisturizing my body as much as I do my face!! And my feet could always do with some more TLC ;)
ReplyDeleteI've only recently started moisturising my body regularly. I can't stand the feeling of body butters and thick lotions so I'll only use ones that absorb quickly.
ReplyDeleteABlogByPhilippa
Great resolutions! I'm super lazy with moisturizing my body too- always trying to make that a more regular routine :)

Where do I begin, i do all of the above except the nail biting. I am a sucker for touching my face and hair all day though, almost rubbing my foundation around my face come the oily time of the day, eww I know but better than leaving it. I'm also really terrible at moisturizing my limbs.

I've gotten into the habit of picking at my mascara, I do it without realising sometimes!
ReplyDeletewww.porthelen.blogspot.co.uk
I'm guilty of running my fingers through my hair many times a day too! It's terrible and it makes my hair go really greasy fast but it's a darn habit that is hard for me to stop.
ReplyDeleteShireen | Reflection of Sanity
I'm guilty of picking of picking my mascara and my nails! I think I do it unconsciously when I'm nervous... oh and keep at it with Breaking Bad, I was a little *mergh* initially but then it hooked me and has since become one of my favourite ever series! xx
ReplyDeleteI blame it on the cold weather and thick clothing that I always forget to moisturise.
ReplyDeleteEvie-Elliott.blogspot.co.uk
I always pick away at my mascara too.My worst beauty habit is not moisturising enough and leaving on my make up at night x
ReplyDeletepintsizedbeauty.blogspot.co.uk
I need to leave my skin alone and do face mask more often (and find a great declogging face mask, always on the hunt) - I also need to change my nail polish more so it doesn't peel off and make me pick it, slaps wrists

Oh dear god I thought there was only me on the planet who did those hair things, I do those and twidle and pull the semi loose ones. I made a resolution to stop but it's nerves and a habit. I also have 5 hundred body lotions but use zero. I will force myself before they go bad.x
ReplyDeleteThe worst one I'm doing right now is picking at my spots. I hate them, I hate that they are not flat so I flatten them by picking at them. I know it's bad, I just can't help it!
ReplyDeleteYes I'm terrible at moisturising my body! I also need to brush my hair more.. I often do wavy hair and don't brush it for 2 days, wash it.. Then find a nest on my head which I attempt to rake out causing damage! Naughty naughty!
ReplyDeleteOh wow I do so many of these without thinking. I rake my hands through my hair all the time, I bite of my nail polish, I never moisturise my body and I pick of my mascara as well. But what I reaaally need to stop with is touching my face and picking my spots etc!
ReplyDeleteI also "forget" to moisturise my body / can't be bothered. Really need to start doing it after each shower especially as I own so many lovely moisturisers!
ReplyDeleteApart from that I chew my lips, constantly. I really, REALLY need to stop doing that but it has definitely become an addiction and I'm almost not sure how to stop :-/

I'm definitely guilty of not moisturising! One of my goals this year is to make more effort! That and not pick at my nails!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mrsdloves.com
I do all of the above :(
ReplyDeleteI'm definitely guilty of a few of these! x
ReplyDeletehttp://my--socalledlife.blogspot.com.es/
The racking hands through hair to find split ends :-( then I wonder why it isn't growing and looks straggly haha. Great post x
ReplyDeletehttp://lauratalksout.blogspot.co.uk
Oh my god! I had no idea other people picked at their mascara clumps. I only semi-recently started doing this but I need to stop ASAP. I think taking my make-up off before I go to sleep would be helpful because it's usually day old mascara that I'm picking off.
ReplyDeleteAnd damn... applying lotion to your whole body! HOW DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY DO THIS EVERYDAY?! Ugh.
*Amanda @ StuffAmandaLikes
Forgetting to moisturise my body has been an ongoing struggle for me shall we say!
ReplyDeletewww.britishbeautyaddict.com
I rake my hands through my hair too! I then get a bunch of loose hair that gets everywhere! I dunno how to quit though since I sometimes find myself doing it unconsciously. :))
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on forgetting about moisturizing. My face? I would never. I have to do that compulsively lol. I spray some Organix dry oil all over my body, though, maybe once a week? If that? Even in the dead of winter. So I'm glad to know I'm not the only one. :D
ReplyDeleteThe split end thing is my number one bad beauty habit! Along with pulling out the occasional baby hair - so bad I know.
ReplyDeleteCan I just say how envious I am that you have Breaking Bad in your life right now, I miss that. Persevere, it's too good.
theprettybeatniks.com
O gosh, I am extremely guilty when it comes to moisturizing! Looks like we're all in this together haha
ReplyDeleteI used to break off my split ends all the time! People would stare at me in class thinking I was the weirdest person ever. Since then I've kept my hair short and it's, thankfully, rid me of my split ends and this horrible habit!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely not moisturising! Why does it seem like the biggest effort ever?!
ReplyDeletehttp://gonebl0gging.blogspot.co.uk
When I had really long hair I used to be really bad at searching for split ends and then splitting them further, as in grabbing one half in each hand and pulling until when half came away. But now my hair is dyed I can't do it any more as I don't get them x
ReplyDeleteBecky @ The Little Blog of Beauty
Not quite the same, but I used to sit with a pair of scissors looking for split ends and cut them off. It's weird that I haven't even thought about that for a long time. lol Now I want to grab the scissors and start looking. :)
