The Products We Never Seem to Use Up

Today all at once my favourite moisturiser, sunscreen and foundation all ran out, and as such I found myself snipping open various tubes of lotions and potions, swearing that beauty brands are in this together. They aren't, and of course my three most used products will disappear the quickest but that doesn't make the sting of replacing a selection of skincare items any easier. Goodbye money, it was nice knowing you. I then got to thinking, why is it that I deplete foundation, SPF and general skincare items several times a year, and yet I have a nail polish from what I am guessing is 2009 that is still going strong (I'm exaggerating of course).

Nail polish, I like you but only in small doses; some days or even weeks I enjoy a glossy manicure and then suddenly I have this urge for bare nails. I secretly think it is the upkeep, I enjoy painted nails but feel really unkempt when then begin to chip, even self concious to a degree. Then I'll go through phases of visiting nail salons for gel overlays but again the upkeep is too much - gel overlays are wonderful, they allow your natural nails to grow underneath, on the most part are inexpensive and really hard-wearing. However you can't remove them at home all that easily and a few weeks down the line, they do look a little tatty. Basically I am not a nail polish kinda gal and that explains why I have half used, to semi-full bottles of various nail paints scattered freely around my home. Go figure.

Yes I am a fairly careless person and have lost more pairs of sunglasses, sets of keys and bankcards than I care to admit - if it is an item that I have to use regularly, at some point I will loose it, accept it and move on Mum. This will explain my collection of half used lip balms; I buy a lip balm, use it a few times, loose it, replace it and then repeat the whole process a good few times per month. The problem is I eventually find said lost lip product and as such now have a drawer full of perfectly-good-yet-half-finished lip moisturisers. Tell me I'm not the only one?

Speaking of half finished products has anyone ever completed or hit pan on every single shade within a ready made eyeshadow palette? I know I haven't - my favourite shades of course crumble away quickly, I am then left with the remnants of bright and slightly unusual eyeshadows, that I know I'll never use. This is the reason why I am more tempted to purchase solo pans of eyeshadow over an eyeshadow palette - I say that with such conviction, when I have an assortment of lightly used palettes currently judging me for pretending to be above it all.

Then there is the products that I don't get to finish up through no fault of my own; be it a dried up mascara that is potentially a danger to my eye health, or all the broken compacts of pressed powder I have shattered over the years. Turns out it is easier to loose, break or disregard a beauty item than finish up every mere morsel of product.
