A Week in the Beauty World

So last week I decided that the Weekly Favourites style posts had their day and were rather limiting. I do still want to share what I have been enjoying but would also like to add a few other beauty tid bits, including any events I have been to, what I am lusting over and products I have discovered and emptied along the way. Think of this as a good few old features coming together - Weekly Favourites meets Shopping the Stash, coupled with an Empties Post.

The Best of the Week

Going On's - Last week I was invited along to The Transform Group in Glasgow to live watch a few non-surgical procedures: a chemical peel, Botox and lip fillers. Despite being quite squeamish I have to say it was a really enjoyable (no blood, tears or fuss) and educational experience. I'm not quite at the Botox stage, my lips are full enough as it is and I don't really fancy a facial peel as of yet but it was nice to be able to ask questions and watch live demonstrations in a relaxed environment. The staff were beyond professional - no question was out of bounds and answered both professionally without a load of medical jargon that I would not understand. Like I said I don't want anything done at the moment but if I did I wouldn't hesitate popping along to The Transform Group for a consultation.

Beauty Rediscoveries - I think like most I get so wrapped up in new releases that I often forget to have a good ol' route around my stash and put to use, once very much loved items. At the moment I can't get enough of MAC Studio Fix Powder, yes it is intended to be used as a powder foundation but if high matte coverage is what you crave then you need this in your life. I use it to set foundation and it not only keeps excess oil at bay it ensures my make-up stays in place all day. Perhaps not one to use everyday but for special occasions or for those who are really oily I can not fault it. Another MAC rediscovery so to speak is MAC Coral Bliss Lipstick - a light yet easy to wear peachy orange lip shade that pops with a tan.

Two other non-new launches but stellar products I would recommend are: Elemis Hydra-Nourish Night Cream - light weight yet deeply nourishing (I do need to re-stock soon as it has quickly become my bedside staple), and Superdrug Vitamin E Nourishing Eye Cream (oddly not available for sale online) - as good as any other eye cream of this type on the market only really affordable.

Recent Finds - If you are anything like me you will seldom keep your hair the same shade for any length of time, great for the soul not so much the brows. The newly launched Pixi Shades of Brow Palette is ideal for not only those who have chameleon tendencies but anyone who fills their brows using such medium. The palette contains six shades of brow powders that you can mix and match to create the perfect shade.

As you can see it has been a fairly MAC centric week but if I could only recommend one MAC product to try it would be MAC Pro Longwear Nourishing Waterproof Foundation. Not only is this foundation heat, sweat and water resistant but it is both high yet natural coverage and utterly comfortable to wear - perfect for balmy evenings both home and abroad.

I've only just began testing the Max Factor Colour Intensifying Balm's but it is safe to say I am hooked! Soft and utterly nourishing, beyond comfortable and super easy to apply - if you use one lip product this Summer let it be this. I have the shade Exquiste Carmel (a light and natural nude) but I will be stocking up in the weeks to come.

I have Summer firmly on my mind - even if the weather says otherwise, to protect my hair and colour from fading I have been misting on Pantene UV Protection Spray that both nourishes and helps to prevent the UV rays from damaging the hair shaft. I've been using it in place of my regular leave in conditioner and have to say it does a stellar job of hydrating and de-tangling too. It would be a great product to pack if you are jetting off to seek some sun in the coming weeks. Annoyingly I can not find this online but it does cost £6.99 and can be found in Superdrug and Boots.

Fragrance(s) of the Week - Not one, not two, not even three but four fragrances have been in rotation this week. For evening wear I have been relying on a mist or two of Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum which is both unusual and entirely comforting. If you enjoy rich and somewhat smoky scents this is a must try. For day wear I have been reaching for CK One Summer 2015 which is entirely unisex and like a cool, refreshing dip in the sea coupled with a fruity cocktail. It really is beautiful. Lastly and perhaps the most special of the bunch is Tom Daxon Salvia Sclarea Eau de Parfum - a light, green and entirely Summer ready scent that is both unusual and uplifting. I've also been savouring Tom Daxon Sicilian Wood Eau de Parfum - rich, fruity and unlike anything else I have ever tried.

My Current Obsession - White nail polish, admittedly not for everyone and a nightmare to keep chip free but man does a fresh white manicure look wonderful. It compliments just about every skin tone and has such a simplistic, modern vibe. I can't get enough. At the moment I have three white polishes on rotation Bourjois La Laque in White Spirit which is quite a thick and glossy polish. Essie Blanc is also a great option as it dries so quickly and doubles up as a base coat. If you are looking for a more budget friendly option is Seventeen Gel Colour in White Lady which is practically identical in formula as the Bourjois polish.

Empties - I've finished a good few Lush products this week: Lush BB Seaweed Face Mask - great for combination and blemish prone skin (you can read my review from last year here), Lush Ocean Salt - my go to body scrub which I repurchase constantly (read my full review here). I've also finished Lush Million Dollar Moisturiser - it adds a glow while offering SPF protection, not the best but nice enough and lastly Lush African Paradise - again I'm not a huge fan but it more than gets the job done. I now have enough empties to return in order to get two free face masks, the question is which two do I go for?

And that is pretty much all folks, I hope you have enjoyed the slight change of pace - I don't think it has strayed too much away from my typical Weekly Favourites post, if anything it has given you a further peek into my bathroom cabinet ha!
