You know the drill, you have a well loved eye or lip liner that you live in fear of sharpening as you have yet to find the ideal tool for the job. I've had sharpeners that all but maul my pencils leaving me with next to no product, fear of the pencil going blunt again and a through the roof level of stress. I've bought about every brand name of pencil sharpener going from the pricey but slick MAC version to the budget friendly Superdrug offering - alas nothing has been all that satisfactory.
I know I am not alone, every time I ask a friend what their recommendation would be to squash this problem once and for all, I am greeted with "I'll let you know when I find out". It seems like some of us are just destined to have blunt or managed pencils ha!
So come on, help a friend out - do you have any tricks like chilling your pencils before sharpening or the dream sharpener itself. I eagerly await your answers as it is the one tool I have yet to find my perfect version of!
Have you tried the body shop? Nikki lipstickdrawer.blogspot.co.uk
ReplyDeleteI actually use a knife which may seem a bit old school and does take a bit of practice (definitely don't try it for the first time on an expensive product!) but once you get the hang of it it really works :)

I've been using the Urban Decay sharpener and I find it brilliant. Nothing snaps and it's got a lovely clean nip. Two different sized holes which is great. However I do need a separate one for my Charlotte Tilbury eyeshadow pencils.
ReplyDeleteI use the Bourjois sharpener and it's the best; works with all my lip liners, eyeliners, eye shadow sticks etc as it has 2 different size sharpeners built in!

DeleteI really like the benefit sharpener (:

I really love the Barry M sharpener. It has two different size sharpeners built into it and collects any shavings in it. So far I haven't had any trouble with it :)

I've never had any problems with the Bourjois one (and I have had a few in the past that have totally ruined eye and lip pencils). It has 2 different size sharpeners and collects the shavings. £3.49 in Boots or Superdrug! Em x

The best is the sephora brand sharpener! Or the Nars or Urban Decay sharpeners since they're made by the same company. It fits 3 sizes of pencils (fit my nars lip pencils, nyx jumbo pencils, rimmel eyeshadow pencils).
ReplyDeleteI haven't had one sharpening mishap and I've had it for almost a year it sharpens everything perfectly! It's a little more expensive but definitely worth it
My favourite ones are the Essence double-sided sharpener and the Sephora brand double-sided sharpener. Both have a compartment that keeps the shavings inside and have a good razor, but the Sephora one is slightly cuter, it's hot pink and black!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree about the Essence one! I have 2 - one for my eye products and one for my lip pencils (it works with the Nars pencils!!!).

I've bought way too many pencil sharpeners, even splurged on the UD one. Then during the recent Sephora sale, I was desperate for just anything and had misplaced every other one I own, so I bought one.
ReplyDeleteIt is FABULOUS. Maybe it is a fluke, but the Sephora Collection Look Sharp Pencil Sharpener Item #1601004 and it is $6.00. Not too sharp, but sharp enough. I was shocked and a little mad I wasted so much money over the years. I am going to buy another as a back up, because like you, I have never found the perfect one.
My old ones would eat away at the pencil or make it too sharp and I needed to run over my hand a few times.

I bought a snazzy little number in Sephora! x
ReplyDeleteI can't really tell from experience but I heard from someone I really trust beauty wise that Essence's sharpeners are great! It's worth the try since they're so cheap! You should a batlle of the sharpeners in the end haha :)
ReplyDeleteIm the same! I can never find one that doesn't ruin them :( x

I love the Bourjois one! I have two, one for eye pencils and another for lips! So handy that it has two different sized sharpeners in one too!
ReplyDeleteI've found the best ones to be the one's that come free on lids of eyeliners, my favourites the MUA one

my NYX one has kept me going for years
ReplyDeleteI tend to just cry. lol

I got a Sephora brand one a few years back for maybe like $3 or $4 and it works like a dream! Plus it also sharpens both regular and jumbo sized pencils.
ReplyDeleteI use the no7 one. I get back ups with the 3 pound off make up vouchers no 7 do. I get powder puffs and a little magnifying mirror with last voucher as their make up doesnt appeal.

ReplyDeleteHonestly, I just use a good regular sharpener, one of those metal ones that you can buy for your pencilcase! I also have a kiko one that has two sizes and it is not that bad either
ReplyDeleteYou should try one from Avon! It sharpens both normal and chunky pencils and doesn't waste much product :) x
