MAC Cinderella Collection

I understand that the majority of this collection has sold out online and in-store, I also fully comprehend that for most the packaging ran a little on the bland side. Those who have read this site for years (I began four years ago) will know only too well I am a MAC girl. There was a time I bought every limited edition collection - a pricey habit that I have somewhat grown out of, walking past a MAC counter is still dangerous. Truth be told I save my splurges for the truly special collections, one of which I did think would be MAC Cinderella. When it first went online I missed out, then last week it was re-stocked I decided to treat both my sister and myself to a few pieces and the rest the say is history. Is this the most exciting collection MAC have produced? No, heck some may even say the shades and packaging are safe but on the plus side it is all very wearable.

A quick note on the packaging a.k.a the current bone of contention, I'm going to put it out there - I do rather like it. Yes it is a little childish (growing up Disney Cinderella was my favourite film) but the pale iridescent lilac come blue tone speaks to me and the gold writing is a pretty touch. Admittedly MAC should have taken the Cinderella concept and ran with it - pumpkins, glass slippers, the clock striking ten and what not but I guess it is, what it is. You can't win them all.

MAC Mystery Princess Beauty Powder £23
Essentially a cool toned beige highlighting powder that is intended to give a lit from within glow. Sadly the formulation is a little chalky and dry, resulting in the fine glitter particles within this powder settling in my enlarged pores. On the plus side it is a very subtle highlighter meaning it can be used as an illuminating face powder to set make-up or as a light, shimmery eyeshadow should you wish. A great concept but the formulation does need a little work. If you do find this on counter or should more stock arrive online skip this if you have anything deeper than a medium skin tone, as it will appear chalky on deeper complexions.

MAC Coupe D'Chic Iridescent Pressed Powder £23
As soon as I opened this (I didn't Google swatches etc before ordering) I was instantly reminded of NARS Orgasm Blush. MAC are a little lofty in their description of this product - my guess is that it is intended to be a multi-purpose product much like above. Personally I find the light peachy pink tone of this powder best suited to the cheeks as an illuminating blush. The pigmentation isn't great and although the glitter is fine I find it translates on to the skin quite heavily making it less than ideal for day time wear. If you have a pale complexion this worn alone will be enough to give you a light, illuminating peachy pink punch of colour to the cheeks, should you have a medium to deep complexion this will either be a highlighting powder, or something you apply over the top of blush for added radiance. Again the powder is dry and a little chalky - I really don't know what else to say other than I am rather disappointed.

MAC Cinderella Lipsticks £17 each
I put my hands up and admit that I am an idiot, in a wave of panic I ordered both shades when really MAC Free as a Butterfly is not at all a shade I will ever wear. I have not swatched nor tested it as I won't wear it and think the best thing to do is either sell it on to someone who will cherish it or send it back to MAC for a refund. MAC Free as a Butterfly is a light, golden toned nude that reminds me a little of MAC Gel Lipstick - a shade that does not suit me at all. On the flip side MAC Royal Ball Lipstick is a shade I will get a lot of use out of - a light, peachy pink that has a slight golden tone. On the lips it does translate a little nude but it is not flat nor does it drain my face of colour. The formula is Lustre so it is not the most pigmented of finishes, rather than mask the lips in colour it adds a hint of a tint, while being fairly hydrating. In all honesty I should have only bought the lipstick.

So there we have it MAC Cinderella; the collection I am still a little on the fence about.
