I have a friend with the most beautiful deep complexion that struggles to find a suitable highlighter be it high end or a more affordable option. She cites her main problem as being that the vast majority of highlighting powders are more catered to light to medium skin tones and as a result are far too stark and ashen when applied to her skin. Then we stumbled across Revolution Make Up Vivid Baked Bronzer in Ready to Go and pretty much thought tah-dah!
Let's not faff around too much with the packaging - it is pretty basic, a black and transparent round compact that is fairly sizeable. No it won't win any prizes in the look department but it is sturdy enough and the clear lid allows you to easily see the shade that is inside. What I will say is that baked powder products are a little more delicate than your typical bronzer or blush so I don't typically recommend carting them around in your day to day bag...unless you enjoy make-up spills that is ha!
Revolution Make Up Vivid Baked Bronzer in Ready to Go is a bizarre colour to describe and honestly I can't see it working out as bronzer on any skin tone. I would describe Ready to Go as a deep purple toned cranberry that does have hints of red and brown - like I said tricky. If anyone can recall MAC's long gone MAC Metal Rock MSF then I would deem this to be a pretty decent dupe. On deeper complexions this could work as both a vibrant metallic finish blush or sheered out for a golden tinged highlight which is not ashen or stark. For us with light to medium skin tones I don't recommend it for anything other than eyeshadow as the colour pay off is so intense.
Unsurprisingly I am going to compare the Revolution Make Up Vivid Baked Bronzer in Ready to Go to a MAC MSF. Both are baked products that are soft to the touch, superbly pigmented and offer either a full on foil like finish or can be buffered out to create a softer highlight. I won't pretend for one moment that the formula will not highlight your pores because it will so if you have fine lines or open pores perhaps look for something a little more soft focus in finish. It applies and blends fairly effortlessly without becoming a glitter fest which is something I loathe.I find baked formulas to work really well with my oily skin so they do last the pace of a full day - around 9 hours with ease, truthfully I can not find anything with this formula to indicate that it would be troublesome for any skin type. All in all a great highlighting come bronzing/blush product that is a steal considering it is not all that dissimilar from a MAC MSF powder in a shade that has long been discontinued!
