MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural in Medium Plus

For me MAC equates to one thing in my mind - lipsticks and always has done since the first time I parted with my Saturday job wages for a crisp, vanilla scented tube of MAC Creme d'nude. If you are wondering no I can not pull that shade off and yes back then MAC lipsticks cost around £10. So yes I may be able to spot a MAC lip shade at ten paces but my knowledge of what some may deem the brands basics is just that. Can you believe that this is my first MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural review? No me neither but yet here we are.

Most will be familiar with the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish be it the natural line which is more of a finishing powder and in my opinion the more popular range is the shimmer based MAC Mineralize Skinfinishes which tend to be used as blushes or as highlighters. Anyway the point I'm trying to make is that they share identical packaging - large, round and plastic with a transparent window that displays the shade inside. Despite the plastic casing I have yet to break any of my MSF's as they are baked products and tend to survive a knock rather well which does make them great for stashing away in your day to day bag.

As mentioned above the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural range tends to be aimed at those wishing for a natural but effective setting powder - you can of course use the lighter shades to highlight and the deeper shades as a satin effect bronzer should your skin tone allow. I purchased the shade Medium Plus in the summer for setting my make-up and found it then to be a good match for my lightly tanned NC37 skin tone, truth be told at the moment as this tends to oxidise on my oily skin it becomes a little too orange for my NC35 complexion. This is one of those products I don't have a definite skin tone recommendation as I have found it to encourage my foundation to oxidise and would highly recommend swatching in-store just to be on the safe side even if my swatches suggest it would be the perfect match.

Despite the oxidising factor which not all will occur I can't say I hate the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural formula. No it is not totally efficient at keeping oil at bay and if you have oily skin you will find you require the odd touch up through out the day but it does live up to the natural claim. On the skin it feels light and doesn't alter the finish of your foundation - I liken it a little to Chanel Les Beiges Powder only less scented and more suited to sensitive skin. I know some like to use pressed powders as a light foundation but I don't feel this slots into such category as the coverage level is rather low. On my annoyingly oily skin this kept excess sebum at bay for around 4-5 hours depending on the situation but it only really crumbled on my t-zone which is my problem area and very little can hold up against it. What I like about the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural formula is that it is almost weightless and undetectable on the skin if only it didn't oxidise I would be tempted to make it my every day choice and maybe if it was a little cheaper too!
