Today I have a cult American beauty product that can actually now be found within the UK.
That's right you can now pop into the likes of Boots on your lunch break and snag it or of course order from the comfort of your sofa. I know yay, the item I'm yapping on about is of course the infamous Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm.

Oddly today I just found out that Jack Black is not at all about lip balms (I initially assumed it was a company like Carmex et al) but is in-fact a men's grooming company that specialize in skin care using authentic ingredients and original technology and is supposedly loved by the don's of film - mentioning no names...okay Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford and Robert DiNero. So if you are trying to get the man in your life more actively involved in taking better care of their skin Jack Black may well be the brand to reference, don't forget to name drop!

Jack Black Intense Lip Therapy Balms all have an added SPF of 25 so not only do they nourish, soothe and protect the lips but it also protects the lips from any sun damage (ageing and burning). Active ingredients by which the brand means the ones that will actively work while worn to do your lips/skin some good include two forms sunscreen (Avobenxone and Octinoxate) as well as two skin protectants (Lanolin and Petroleum). Annoyingly the Petroleum percentage does outweigh the quantity of Lanolin present - three times over to be precise : Lanolin 13.5% versus 40.2% of Petroleum. I don't have a massive aversion to Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline by any other name) but the truth be told it does very little - yes it is great as a barrier product but let's not kid ourselves other than that it does very little and as Lanolin is natural, moisturises, locks in moisture and acts as a barrier in this instance there is no need what so ever for the Petroleum to be present at all. I guess it boils down to the fact it is very cheap and plentiful.

Despite my above rant the balm is rather good and does feature some brilliant ingredients to soften and hydrate which include Cocoa Butter (no allergic reaction as of yet), Shea Butter and Avocado Oil and I will admit that it does all it claims to while adding a light sheen and flavor to the lips ( I went for Lemon and Chamomile which is zingy, fresh and very lemon-y). Despite being a thick textured balm it does not at all feel uncomfortable on the lips and in my opinion has a soothing quality but it will not heal cracked lips as it claims as it is not a medicated formula.

For now I am afraid I much prefer the natural qualities of Lanolips Lemonaid...sorry Mr Black.
