By now many will know that I am a huge fan of both the brand Maybelline (their mascara's do blow most highstreet offerings out the water) and their Color Tattoo Eyeshadow. For a bargainous £4.99 you can own a cream eyeshadow that not only wear well in a whole manner of ways but also rival the likes of MAC Paint Pots in terms of quality. While in Florida I did notice a few shades that have yet to reach the UK so I snapped up two that I thought I'd get some wear from.
The packaging of the Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hour eyeshadow line is very akin to the likes of Mac Paint Pots - transparent thick jar with a screw on black lid that are fairly compact in size.
I can't quite decide not entirely if the jar that the product is presented within is plastic or glass (I think it is the latter) but either way it is sturdy and does the job nicely but perhaps leave them out your carry on luggage just to be on the safe side. As a heads up do ensure that you keep the lid firmly screwed on in order to prevent the product from drying out. Personally I do think the packaging is somewhat misleading as the base of the jar acts like a magnifying glass, giving the illusion that there is more product than the 4g's...sneaky,sneaky!
The two shades I purchased were Fierce and Tangy which is a bright yellow based orange that appears matte initially but once swatched you can see that there is a slight golden shimmer present. I don't normally go for bold shades but I thought this could work well as a base to layer neutral shades on top of, that and orange based eye products really let blue eyes pop! The other Color Tattoo I opted for is from the Tattoo Metal variety and is called Barely Branded and a very play it safe neutral - a warm, pink based creamy sand shade that is the perfect everyday base or wash of colour. Barely Branded is quite stark and metallic in finish but it does blend out for a softer finish. As mentioned above you can use these in a whole manner of ways: as a base, as a stand alone eyeshadow and as a liner should you wish. Talk about getting bang for your buck.
The Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr Eyeshadows share more than packaging in common with Mac Paint Pots! The formula is also very similar - a solid creamy eyeshadow that melts within contact of the skin.
Personally I use this kind of product as an eyeshadow base but they can be utilized
as an all over wash of colour, an eye liner and of course as a base as I mentioned...not bad for £5 huh!
In the past I wore the formula for 12 around hours (nowadays I'm lucky if I wear make-up for longer than 8 hours) before I experienced any creasing, the idea of wearing make-up for 24 hours is not at all appealing to me but I do want to stress that the Maybelline Color Tattoos are very long wearing all the while being light and comfortable on the skin and a great pocket friendly alternative to Mac Paint Pots not to mention they do have a good shade range too!
UK readers can purchase Fierce and Tangy via eBay but you will be paying over the odds at around £12 inc p&p - link and just over £10 for Barely Branded again via eBay - link.
Random Fact - The thumbnail grows the slowest. The middle nail grows the fastest.
I'm doing a giveaway on a few shades of these if you'd like to enter!
ReplyDeleteI love them, they're so good when you just can't be bothered in the mornings just to slick a bit across your eyes and you're set to go!

I would love to see what the orange shade looks like on the lid because it's such a gorgeous colour in the pot but I've never used a colour like that before.
