Almond Nails at Swoon Room Glasgow

Shall I let you in on a secret, a confession that may surprise some?
I hate painting my nails. That's right hate!
Now don't get me wrong, I enjoy a fresh manicure and will spend the day admiring my nails
but lord do I loathe the task. I think it all stems down to the fact that I am capable of chipping my freshly lacquered nails within the first half an hour of a fresh paint job. There is also the point that as straight forward as it is to paint my left hand - the right doesn't come so easily so that is why I have took the typical lazy (wo)man's route and outsourced the job!

Yesterday I had the utter pleasure of trotting along to Swoon Room Glasgow which is ran single-handedly by the lovely Lia and located right in the heart of the city center of Glasgow in Central Chambers - I kid you not when I say Central Station is within touching distance. The difference between Swoon Room and other nail salons I have been to is not only the skill that Lia posses but the customer service. Like an idiot I got lost within the ever rambling corridors of the building and Lia kindly herded me up like a lost lamb and guided me to her suite. Speaking of the premises Swoon Room Glasgow has a homely but modern vibe with a large squishy sofa to wait on and funky wall art - a little like the bedroom you wish you had!

Lia specialises in Calgel which is a soak off gel that is robust (no cracks or chips) yet light at the same time not to mention it is much kinder on the nails than acrylic and can be applied to the natural nail or in my case sculptors (extensions). Once set your nails are good to go, should last you up to four weeks and require very little upkeep - infills should you wish and gloves while doing gardening and housekeeping. Basically Calgel is applied a little like Gelish or Shellac in that it is cured with a UV lamp but unlike said methods this won't peel off after a week or so. At the Swoon Room everything is done by hand - no electric nail files or other implements of nail torture - trust me when I say it is a welcome relief, if you have ever had your nails over filled at the expense of an electrical nail tool you will feel my pain!

All in it took about two hours (it goes by quickly from talking about all things beauty to life, you will feel at home) for my nails to be created but I did opt for long almond shaped talons that are of the brightest red orange and decked out in gold leaf and glitter - hey go glitzy or go home! I'd be lying if I said I don't carry a tourch for the lavish and almost ghetto like designs that Rihanna and Rita Ora's nails are often decked out in. Don't worry if that is not for you there honestly is a Calgel colour and design for that matter for everyone - you can see tons of other Swoon Room manicures both on the website - link and on Facebook - link. Hand on heart this is one of the best nail bars I have ever had the pleasure to attend, so much so that I will be emailing Lia soon to request another appointment. If you live locally or are perhaps just vising I think you should get Swooned, your nails will thank you for it!

Now to get Disney inspired nails for Florida or not?
That is the question.

Disclaimer - I was offered my first set of nails as a complementary treatment but was not asked to write this review, I was just blown away by the service that I simply could not share and I can guarantee you that follow up Swoon Nail posts will be coming your way in the future.

Random Fact - New born babies have no kneecaps. Kneecaps do not develop completely until after six months.
