I will openly admit that I bought MAC RiRi Boy Lipstick on an utter whim.
I don't really like or wear purple lipstick and yet I own this and Up the Amp. Oops!
Having said that I do believe that sometimes taking a risk pays off and having applied this lipstick
I do rather like it...here's to stepping out of your comfort zone now and then.
Sadly the Rihanna Hearts MAC Summer collection does not feature limited edition packaging but the typical matte black lipstick casing that we all associate with MAC - I personally think they will hold back the special packaging for the festive season. What sets the RiRi lipsticks aside from your typical MAC lipstick offering is that the three limited edition shades have been engraved with Rihanna's signature which is a nice touch if you ask me.
MAC RiRi Boy was officially listed as a matte vivid lavender which I have to disagree with as it is not lavender at all rather a bright pink tinged purple and finish aside this is identical to MAC Up the Amp Lipstick in terms of colour. Some have even said that it reminds them of MAC Heroine but as I don't own that I can't really comment. Boy is most certainly cool in tone with a strong blue undertone that can make teeth appear more white which is never a bad thing. Despite being a fairly out there or perhaps garnish colour in some peoples opinion I have found Boy to be rather flattering and oddly I used to wear Up the Amp all the time when I had black hair - if you have an olive/tanned complexion and dark hair I urge you to try out a bright purple lip colouring of some sort as it really compliments such complexions. I commend both Rihanna and MAC for creating three lip shades that are as close to universally flattering as I have seen in a long time.
All three of the lipstick shades within the RiRi Summer collection shared the same formula/finish - Retro Matte. This formula which is easily the most matte lip formula I have ever encountered is truly matte I find that it can tug and pull a little on the lips with a slightly waxy texture that can cling to dry patches. However what the waxy element does is allows the lipstick to fully cling to the lips and wear true for close to four hours, there's not many lipstick formulas you can say that about. Yes it is a little drying but the wear time and beauty of the shade more than compensate for that and after all what use is a lip balm if you can't use it?
As you may know all three lipsticks sold out within the first few hours of release but as MAC re-release shades fairly often I wouldn't worry too much if you missed out this time around as it will more than likely make a re-appearance before the festive season is fully in swing.
Random Fact - Orang means "man" in Malay and hutan means "forest," so an orangutan is a "man of the forest."
Glad I have this and Heaux coming from the US!
ReplyDeleteHope I get my Heaux when I land...expect an excited tweet or 10 if I do ;)
