We've already been through just how much of a nightmare I found ordering the RiRi Hearts MAC Summer collection so much so that I actually missed out on MAC Heaux Lipstick despite being in the waiting room as soon as it launched. Oh well I may still have got my hands on one due to the back ordering system in the US but I'll have to wait until July to find out. Less of what I don't have and more of what I do...
The one product I really wanted from the MAC Summer collaboration was the Hibiscus Kiss Blush and Bronzer Duo. Sadly the summer launch does not feature special packaging at all my guess is that they'll roll that out come Christmas but I guess we'll just have to see. So yes no special packaging just a regular black matte compact that is roughly on par with a MAC Skin Finish in terms of size but at least the blush/bronzer has been embossed with Rihanna's signature. As you may or may not know the last two MAC RiRi Hearts launches have been online and exclusive to the MAC site which is cool in one way but annoying in another, as it means you can't pop instore and swatch saving an impulse purchase and also it gives hope to those who missed out online.
MAC RiRi Hearts Hibiscus Kiss Blush and Bronzer Duo features a large segment of bronzer and a smaller segment of blush. The bronzer is a light sand shade that is fairly cool in tone and not worlds apart from NARS Laguna, in my opinion the bronze section is matte so you can use it to contour too. What I am slightly mystified about is the fact the bronzer is rather light and not at all suitable for deep skin tones so why a product that Rihanna herself couldn't wear is included is slightly confusing. The blush segment on the other hand is a bright yellow toned pink that has a slight shimmer finish and is somewhat similar to MAC's Dollymix Blush. Annoying the ratio of this duo is a little off , the blush is a little on the small side so you will need a small brush to be able to use it as an individual shade. You can of course swirl both segments together to create a warm bronze pink should you wish.
Much to my surprise despite what numerous reviews have indicated the MAC RiRi Hearts Hibiscus Kiss Duo is not as sheer in terms of pigmentation. What the problem seems to be is that the top layer of the duo is very firm and almost dry but once your swirl your brush around a few times that lifts and underneath is a softer, more pigmented product. On my skin tone the bronzer was a little off, it's not deep enough for me to contour with yet not warm enough for me to use to achieve a sun kissed glow, however the matte formula on the right skin tone will be nothing short of wonderful as it blends out well and doesn't highlight imperfections. The blush portion size woes aside is a truly beautiful shade that brightens the skin due to the shimmer type finish without settling into my enlarged pores. In terms of wear I buffed on the blush at 10am this morning and come 5pm when I sat down to type up this review it was still going strong after 7 hours which isn't too bad on my oily skin.
MAC RiRi Hearts Hibiscus Kiss Blush and Bronzer Duo was £21 for 10.5g
Random Fact - Hibiscus flowers can grow up to 30 feet tall in warm tropical climates like Hawaii.

ReplyDeleteThat duo looks beautiful but why is the bronzer half so large? I feel like it should be an even split if they're going to call it a duo. :S
