MAC All About Orange Blushes

Orange is one of my favourite colours you only have to look at my skin tone to figure that out...I kid, I kid.
Anyway a few days ago MAC launched a collection in honor of the color orange which is a dream come true for me. Don't worry if orange isn't quite for you as the collective also features hues of peach and coral.
It really is one of MAC's best launches of 2013.

I snagged two of the three blushes from the MAC All About Orange collection as the third Immortal Flower is a re-promote which I have reviewed in the past here - link.

MAC Honey Jasmine Satin Blush

MAC Honey Jasmine Blush is the most orange based blush out of the trio, I would deem it to be a mid toned orange that has a strong yellow undertone and is probably the most universally flattering out of the three blush shades. MAC Honey Jasmine reminds me somewhat of NARS Taj Mahal Blush but without the golden shimmer element, pretty odd when MAC list this as a "soft warm coral". Warm maybe, coral not so much.

Truthfully I find orange blushes pretty difficult to wear and tend to go for corals as they look softer on the skin but as Honey Jasmine is a satin formula which means it is free from shimmer it looks natural on the skin. In terms of pigmentation I would deem MAC Honey Jasmine to be moderate - it isn't chalky but as it is a satin formula it is pretty dry. On my mid skin tone a light hand is more than suffice to provide a light, healthy flush of colour but it can be layered on without turning ashen if you have a deeper skin tone. In terms of wear generally speaking I typically get around 7/8 hours of wear on my oily skin type when combined with a primer.

MAC Royal Sunset Satin Blush

Out of the three blush offerings from the MAC All About Orange collection MAC Royal Sunset is my favourite by far. MAC list this as a soft peach offering but to my eye it is a bright flamingo pink with a strong yellow undertone and not at all dissimilar to Illamasqua's Tremble blush which I adore. This type of shade is one of the few that instantly brighten the skin without the need of a highlighter. It's youthful and a great way to achieve a young healthy glow in a few seconds. Anything that can knock a few years off your face without the need of a needle can only be a good thing?

Much like Honey Jasmine this is a satin blush so it is almost matte, despite being a light and bright shade Royal Sunset is not at all chalky but does have a dry texture which in a way can be a blessing as it prevents the product from being too pigmented. Again this shade can be layered on but I do think Royal Sunset may be a little to stark for deeper skin tones. As I said above most MAC satin formulated blushes tend to wear for around 7/8 hours on my oily skin when used in conjunction with a primer.

Random Fact - Christopher Columbus brought the first orange seeds and seedlings to the New World on his second voyage in 1493.
