I was lucky enough to attend the event for Benefit's newest primer - Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer in Edinburgh last Friday, you can read all about the even and my little trip to the Hard Rock Cafe Edinburgh here -link. Since Saturday I have been putting the Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer to the test to see just how well it fairs on oily skin and if it could replace Benefit Porefessional within my routine.
We might as well address the packaging before we get into the nitty gritty. Yes it does look rather like Topshop's make-up range with the polk-a-dots and plastic style but at the event we were assured that it was merely a coincidence and that the packaging for this particular product was in-fact drawn up years in advance. That aside I rather like the stick style applicator of this product it allows it to be mess, fuss free and as it is fairly compact it is travel friendly too.
The Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer is a light beige in colour which applies transparent so it is suitable for all skin tones. To apply you simply twist up the primer and apply it directly to cleansed but dry skin before you apply your foundation and/or other base products. The idea is that the primer acts as a magnet keeping foundation and/or other base products in place for longer than had you not used the primer with some experiencing up to 15 hours of wear time and others have claimed that it has improved the level of coverage given by their foundation as well as their skin looking smoother. To get the best results I would imagine that it would work best with Benefit's Stay Flawless Foundation.
Truthfully I do like Benefit Stay Flawless 15 Hour Primer but I don't deem it to be ideal for my skin type.
Yes it does help foundation stay in place longer than if I skip primer but on my oily skin the wear time is no where near 15 hours - closer to the six hour mark before my foundation begins to wear off. I think the main problem is that I have oily skin as well as enlarged pores so I need my primer to not only prime my skin but to help keep my skin matte and hide imperfections neither of which this does. If you have normal or dry skin I do think this light silky primer will be ideal and will be wonderful for keeping your foundation in place without looking heavy or caking your base products but if you have oily skin I'm afraid I deem it to be a miss!

Random Fact - Anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere in the world there is a duck watching you (really?)
i have your skin type so wouldn't suit me either, in-fact primer wise i find i am better skipping all together, the only one i used and thought yeah its doing something was smashbox photo finish LIGHT....and used with the finishing powder LOOSE that you recommended to me i am good all day...x
ReplyDeleteI love Smashbox Photo Light and really like Clarins primer too. Smashbox is easily the best loose powder...gutted I'm running low as we speak haha! x
DeleteI didn't enjoy using this either. I found it to be quite heavy unfortunately xx
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear that :( what do you think of Benefit Porefessional out of curiosity? x
DeleteThis sounds amazing! I think I'll pick it up

Let me know if you do :) x
DeleteIf you're looking for a primer for oily skin, I know it's pricey but i really could not recommend Laura Mercier more- it evens skin tone, reduces the size of pores and is oil free! it leaves a beautifully almost matte finish once foundation is applied and really does last all day. Even after a night of dancing getting very hot i found that my makeup had not budged!
ReplyDeleteHope i helped!
I would really appreciate it if you have time if you could check out my blog as i'm new to this blogging business!
Thanks

I have that :) and really like it but my staple at the moment is Clarins - the only one that hides my pores :) x
DeleteWhich Clarins primer is it? I'm looking for one and I have very oily skin.
DeleteOhh sounds lovely for my normal skin type. Sorry to hear it didn't work so well for you!

I was saying earlier on Twitter you could try mixing the 2? use Porefessional first then use the stay flawless after and apply foundation that way youre dealing with the pores and the oilyness :D

Yes I agree, I thought it was Topshop make up too !
ReplyDeletenever tried a stick primer before - sounds interesting

I Am A Weapon Of Massive Consumption
I have your skin type surprisingly, this was a HIT for me! I find that it works better when I buff my foundation with a buffing brush before Stay Flawless dries on my skin and of course set everything with a setting powder. When I do this, my make-up lasts around 8-10 hours (still not 15 hours like they claim) but it's good enough for everyday use!
ReplyDeleteLove this primer, I have also reviewed it over on beautyhotsquad
