Recently I have been road testing Clinique 3-Step Skin Care, you can read my first impressions -here
and now it has been a week it is time to update you on my thoughts
and most importantly how my skin reacted to each product thus far.
For reference each product I have was selected for me by the Clinique team
and matched for my type 2 skin - oily/combination.
Clinique Liquid Facial Soap Mild (Step 1)
I have found this to be enjoyable to use and that it removes my make-up (not my eye make-up_
with ease without being harsh or over stripping my skin of it's moisture.
That being said so far I have found it to balance the oil on my face resulting in my oily zones being less so.
I will admit that this product could potentially dry my skin out should I skip moisturising!
Clinique Clarifying Lotion (Step 2)
Sadly I have had to discontinue using this after around 5 days of use it was simply too much for my skin,
it stings my face leaving it red and a little painful for a few minutes after each use.
Also after each use my skin felt tight and slightly uncomfortable until I moisturised.
I don't know if this is one of those product requires your skin to adjust and get used to the product?
Either way I have decided that it is best just to leave this product alone for the time being.
Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion (Step 3)
This product works well and does indeed deliver a great dose of moisture to my skin
without overloading my oily skin or feeling heavy.
What I like best about this product is that it is light enough to be used as a day cream
but hydrating enough to be applied as a night cream for my skin type.
So far I enjoy this product best and is the step I am most likely to purchase at this stage,
however it is very early on in the trial and this may all change.
So there we have my 1 week update, I shall post another after a month has passed.
Have you tried any of the Clinique 3-step programmes?
I've actually reviewed this today weirdly enough. I love the 3 step skincare but understand each to their own! x
ReplyDeletehaha great minds :) I like it too :) I just didn't get on with step 2!
DeleteYou should try the Clinique Moisture surge moisturiser. Its sooo much better than Dramatically different!!!

Agreed! Moisture surge = AMAZING!
DeleteYes I like that too :) but I use it as a mask.
DeleteIt's strange because I use step 2 and I have really dry skin, I love the facial soap and toner but hate the moisturiser! I think with the toner, It's meant to sting just slightly as it's chemically exfoliating your skin and as long as that passes and you dont develope a serious skin reaction to it I would recommend keeping on at it. Just my two cents. Can't wait for week two's review

Haha it is funny to see how differently our skins react to things :) Ah I see I will try it again and bare with it :)
DeleteI use Clinique's 3 step system, i first started using step 1 but found the redness range much gentler on my skin. I have since been using their redness cleanser, extra mild clarifying lotion and redness moisturizer for about a year now and have defo noticed an improvement in my skin. I used to use the clarifying lotion but like you found it too harsh and stung when i applied. I then switched to the extra mild clarifying lotion and this is much gentler. Absolutely Love Clinique! x
ReplyDeleteGreat :) I will pick up the gentle version and see if that helps :) thanks for the tip :)
DeleteI use the 3 step. Although I have type 2 skin (oily/combination) I was advised as I am sooooo pale and I burn very easily in sunlight that I should use the type 1 toner (clarifying lotion) I have never had this burning sensation you speak off. The girl at the counter did say if you use one that is too strong for your skin it would burn!! Maybe that's why?? If you want to carry on with this 3 step fully might I suggest you change your toner to the type 1?! Don't know if this would affect you though not knowing how ur skin is in the sunlight. Hope this helps someone though :)
ReplyDeleteAh that could be the cause :) I don't have pale skin but it is quite sensitive so that does make sense :) I will give it a go thank you for the tip :)
DeleteOuch D: Step 2 sounds painful. Makes me kind of nervous. My brow and nose area tend to be super sensitive.
ReplyDeleteIt is okay now but I'm a little hesitant to use it again :(
DeleteI tried this 3 step and had the same reaction with step 2 with my dry/combination skin so I stopped using it :(
ReplyDeleteI hope it stops for you x
Thanks lovely :) did you just skip step 2?
DeleteI tried the three step too and had the same reaction to step 2. If you are going to persevere with the rest of the routine I'd strongly recommend opting for the mild option of step 2. I too have oily skin, and that was the only clarifying lotion my skin can take. Even number 1 was too strong and astringent for my skin. xxx

That is what a few have said to me so i'm going to try and pick up the lighter version at the w/e :) thanks for the tip :)
DeleteI had the same problem with the Stage 2, but I'd say your better not to get used to it, the alcohol + oily skin = not good friends in my experience!

I think I will try it one last time and then decide :)
DeleteI used to use the 3 step, it was a family institution with my grandmother, mum and me all using it...until I started working in Space NK they were horrified (!) I now prefer a more gentle approach to skincare and currently use Darphin. Although I think it served a good purpose I do think it's a bit harsh and doesn't leave the skin with that luxurious feeling. You can really feel the difference when you start to use other more gentle skincare lines.

Ah that is cute all three of you using it :) I don't really find it harsh well besides from step 2? I think i'll finish this course up and then decide what to do but thank you for your input :)
DeleteBe very careful the 3 step ruined my oily skin it is absolutely packed with alcohol and apparently that toner contains a dye that is banned in cosmetics in some country's.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh :| I will be thanks for the heads up!
Deletestep two contains alcohol... only their toner for sensitive or dry skin doesn't contain alcohol.. I have oily/combination skin og can't use toners with alcohol. I like their mild facial soap though.
ReplyDeleteGet rid of these!!!!!! Google the ingredients and u will never want to use these again. X

ReplyDeletethese were recommended to me at the Clinique counter.I'm still not sure if i should switch to using these or stick with Clarins.
ReplyDeleteHi, if you have oily skin you should use Clarifying 3, not 2, I have been using it from 4 years now, and works amazing. Prevents the breakout and give me a younger look. The dramatically is use after the Lotion to bring back the confort that the lotion and soap take away, is not a moisturizer by itself, just bring balance after using the another 2 steps, so you need another moisturizer.
ReplyDeleteI currently work for Clinique, and the purple clarifying lotion and the system you describe is the dry combination. Oily combination is number three, the pink one. If your T zone is oily and your cheeks are comfortable, you are a three. A two would be very little oil maybe just on the nose and a little on the forehead and tight in the cheeks. Ones are extremely dry and uncomfortable all over, and fours are slick with oil all over the face, all of the time. The clarifying number two does contain some menthol for a refreshing feel, but some people end up being a bit sensitive to it, so try the three, which does not contain any menthol, but is a very similar product. Hope that helped!
