Recently I was invited along to Clinique to be custom fit to a skin care regime for my skin type,
it is no secret that I have oily skin but parts of my face are also normal
but through in the occasional dry patch on my forehead and you have combination skin at it's finest.
The consultant was great she spent a good 15 minutes explaining my skin type,
looking at it under a magnifying mirror to make sure no aspect was over looked
and going into great detail about not only my skin but also what I should be doing
and using to take proper care of it each season.
Clinique divide skins into various categories and I have Type 2 skin,
it is difficult to guess so I really do recommend trotting along to your local counter.
In my experience they are a friendly and educative bunch so don't be shy.
I don't know about you but I really enjoy when a consultant educates me fully
rather than trying to ram products into my basket, so kudos to Clinique!
I was sent my skin care regime which includes three steps hence the name - 3 step skin care.
As mentioned I have skin type 2 and fall into the combination category rather than dry type.
My regime includes a mild liquid cleanser, a clarifying lotion and a moisturiser.
Now I have only began using these products today and although my face does feel fully cleansed,
soft and the moisturiser soaked in immediately...so far so good!
All products are allergy tested, 100% fragrance free so great for super sensitive skin.
I of course need longer to gauge just how well it works so much like the Sonicleanse - link
I will do a series of updates that will actually coincide with the Soniclease as I am using both together.
So my first update will be in a week's time, keep your eyes peeled!
Have you tried the Clinique 3-Step Skin Care routine?
You can purchase a 3-Step Skin Care starter kit for £20 from Clinique counters
and via their online store - link
Not great for some skins... I had to take 12 steroid tablets to stop a reaction I had to these!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh what products was that?
DeleteI ADORE this range, and I love Clinique staff - but it seems to be the ultimate marmite product!
ReplyDeleteHaha so I have noticed from the comments! Eek but like you I can hand on heart say what I have used I do enjoy :)
DeleteI haven't heard too good things about Clinique, i'd be interested to see what you think x
ReplyDeleteI have just noticed that in my comments, I had no idea it divided people so much! Thanks lovely will keep you all posted :)
DeleteI had a really bad reaction to cliniques dramatically different moisturiser, will never touch the stuff again xx
ReplyDeletewww.misslv.com
Oh gosh! I wonder how that happened?
DeleteClinique skincare seems to be one which you either love or hate! I don't get on with their face wShes or toner but love their moisturizing gel for my combination skin. Much lighter than the lotion and still very moisturizing. X
ReplyDeleteSo I have gleamed ooh err haha! I have tried the gel before and like you I loved it :)
DeleteI tried this when they were sending kits to Youtubers. Made my face feel clean...but that was all. No better than a regular cleanser/ moisturiser. Some love it, though...
ReplyDeleteThat is what I have experienced so far but I am a little worried about step 2 did you have any side effects? I had no idea you did youtube I must sub :)
DeleteI've tried the Dramatically Different Moisturising Lotion and I wasn't impressed...just feels like I'm putting body lotion on my face. I get dry patches too but this just seem to make my skin oily in places that it isn't?! I've tried cheaper moisturisers that feel much nicer on the skin. Not to put you off or anything! Everyone's different :)
ReplyDeleteNo no I'm not off put :) I'm enjoying reading everyone's opinions and like you said everyone is different :)
DeleteLove Clinique skincare, i find it amazing x
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear :) what skin type are you?
DeleteI LOVE the Clinique 3 step skin care system - I'm category 3.
ReplyDeleteI cannot say enough about it, seriously - I just LOVE it. My skin was never, ever happier than when I used it. I love my Clarisonic, it does epic things - but the products I'm using with it at the moment aren't helping the skin, so the Clarisonic isn't able to work it's utmost magic even though it has vastly improved my skin. I need to re-purchase, but I keep having things come up in the way. :(
It's nice to read comments about people getting on wonderfully well with it :)
Deleteah have you reviewed the clarisonic?
How did you cope with the purge stage?
The cleanser and moisturiser are not bad at all. The clarifying lotion though is so, so bad. It is like paint stripper...Literally! It contains a ridiculously high amount of alcohol denat which will either burn and sting your face or completely dry it out.
ReplyDeletePlease don't let me put you off though as some people rave about the Clinique 3 Step. Be wary of the clarifying lotion though. Clinique do, do a mild clariying lotion aimed at dry skin and if I remember rightly contains no alcohol. Even though it is aimed at dry skin, it is still as effective xxx
I will go easy on the clarifying lotion but I do feel the need to test it :)
DeleteOh no I'm not it's nice to read various opinions and what works for one won't for the other etc :)
thanks for letting me know :)
I hate Clinique's three step, it took me a year and antibiotics to get rid of the acne it caused me. The clarifying lotion is HORRIBLE, pure alcohol. My other half you to say my face smelt like vodka after I used it! The moisturising gel is quite nice (I don't like the lotion at all) and the Face Soap is a bit rubbish really, I didn't find it any different to the cheap Boots ranges!
ReplyDeleteAh sorry to hear that! Did you get matched to the same range as I did?
DeleteI used to use the soap when I was younger but nowadays I need something more intense :)
I used these products for years, and in the end I had to stop using them. The soap dried my skin out, to the point it was so tight, even talking hurt my skin, and the toner was like paint stripper! The only product I still use is the moisturiser as it is really good I find during the harsh weather.
ReplyDeleteWas that the yellow bar of soap or the liquid soap?
DeleteAh that is good to hear as my skin has took a bit of a beating haha!
I've always wanted to try this, and I get to the Clinique counters then i'm like um, no thanks it's ok! I've read loads of reviews on it and they're so divided. When I tried the Clarins range I really liked it (other than the awful smell of the moisturiser) so i'm thinking about going back to that. However, the Nivea stuff i'm trying out and The Body Shop seem to work for me too so I'm trying to just stick to what I know. In saying that I just bought another new body shop cleanser haha.
ReplyDeleteHope this works for you!
Looking forward to your updates.
xx
Thanks Linsay :) hopefully my updates will help a little haha :)
DeleteI love clinique, I bought Cosmopolitan today purely to get the clinique free gift. :) xx

oh fab what freebie did you get?
DeleteI absolutely love clinique, I swear by their products and I have super sensitive skin!
ReplyDeleteTheir step 1 soap is the best for removing makeup and the cleansing lotion and moisturiser are awesome too! They have great makeup and I just can't fault them! love love loves clinique!

Ohh cool :) what skin type do you have?
DeleteArgh I was really considering trying out the Clinique 3 step products, after reading these comments its made me doubt whether I should. Maybe your updates will help me decide x
ReplyDeleteI think you have to take the good with the bad, it's like everything really some things work better for others :) thanks chica I hope I can be of some help :)
DeleteI used these 3 products a few years ago and was really dissapointed. My skin went really dry and spotty so I had to stop using :-(
ReplyDeleteHolli x
Dragonmommy123.blogspot.com
oh that sucks :(
DeleteI tried this a good few years ago to try and ort out my combi skin but found it really dried it out xx
ReplyDeletethat sucks hopefully your skin is okay now :)
DeleteThat moisturiser is fantastic.
ReplyDeletex
glad you enjoyed it :)
DeleteI heard people say they had really bad reactions to Clinique's Acne Solutions foundation so I was afraid to try it, but I'm so happy I did, it works great for me. It just goes to show it's best to sample something before buying it, especially skincare, and that not everything will work for everyone. Glad you're getting on with their skincare! xx
ReplyDeleteI agree :) you have to try things to see how you'll get on :) yes samples are the way forward it is a pity not every brand does them!
DeleteDermologica for me! I'm from Australia and London weather did some awful things to my skin. I was face mapped by Dermologica a year ago and haven't looked back since! I also have combination skin, and their toner is light and refreshing, with a moisturizer that sinks in beautifully without being too heavy. Haven't seen ANY dryness this winter either! X
ReplyDeleteI haven't actually tried many items by Dermologica apart from one face mask that burnt my face terribly I think that may have been a one off though haha :)
DeleteI used to use this all the time but it had quite bad effects on my skin! The soap was far too harsh and dried it out so badly I had to get prescription moisturiser for a while to sort it all out! The moisturiser is nice though.
ReplyDeleteOh gosh i'm glad your skin is okay now though :)
DeleteI just did a similar post yesterday, its good to hear that Clinique consultants seem to be friendly and helpful all over the globe!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try a three step system for a while now. Though...I'll probably have to go somewhere other than my regular Nordstroms. The first time I went to the clinique counter there I was dressed kind of...punk/alternatively, it was a few years back. The lady kept hovering suspiciously. The second time was a few months ago, I was wearing a tee shirt and jeans and she kept reminding me of the prices of things. It made me not want to give her my business. ~end rant~
ReplyDeleteI used to love love love Clinique. But after a while it just dried my skin out. Now I've switched to Dermalogica and I'm much happier. Hope you get on better than I did. Lx
ReplyDeletei'm just in the middle of trying the face wash and the gel moisturiser :) so far after two weeks it doesn't have seemed to do much. yeah the face wash gets my makeup off but my skin doesn't seem to have improved or disproved. not sure if it is worth the money! plus the gel moisturiser seems to go very quickly as you need a fair bit of it! <3
ReplyDeleteAs people have mentioned above, I found that the step 1 dried my skin out loads & the step 2/clarifying lotion was really harsh & made my face sting like crazy! The moisturiser is nice though but it needed to be to soothe my poor cheeks after the first two steps! I have quite oily combination skin too so it's unusual for produccts to dry me out. In recent months I have been using Lush products on my face and it is love, someone recommended it to me and I was wary as I tend to associate Lush with pink, glittery highly perfumed products but their 'Ultrabland' cleanser has made me glow!
ReplyDeleteAlthough it is slightly pricey, it's a good investment and my skin improved loads after using the same three step regime as you are using now and I have been using it for 8 months now and I think I would consider using anything else.
ReplyDeleteGreat post as always x
* I don't think I would consider using anything else.
DeleteI know i am late, but avoid the toner 1 2 3 ,it is full of alcohol.next time try the mild toner from the same brand. for moisturizer with spf 25 i use Clinique city blog in the tube (i never use skin care products in a jar package).Very good is the Turnaround Concentrate Visible Skin Renewer.I do my homework on Beautypedia.com! Sorry for my English . Big hugs from Greece and A Happy new Year to you and your family . Thank you for your time
