Two Una Brennan Facial Scrubs to Try

Two Una Brennan Facial Scrubs to Try

In a world of acidic toners and liquid exfoliators, the humble manual facial scrub is often overlooked which is a shame really as there are so many wonderful options out there that will leave your skin glowing and touchable soft - not to mention they do tend to be fairly affordable too. The other great thing about face scrubs is that in a pinch (for instance when travelling) you can double up your gritty tube of polish as both a body scrub and feel both silken and smug. If it is time you added a new exfoliator to your skin care routine and bath room shelf, let me recommend two Una Brennan variants neither of which will break the bank nor your skin out.

Una Brennan Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Anti Blemish Purify and Refresh Facial Scrub

£5.99/150ml via Boots - link.

As someone who is prone to a blemish or ten, I do tend to gravitate towards more gentle and problem skin targeted products to ensure I don't further aggravate my skin; I want (and need) something that will refine my skin texture, not irritate or worse encourage my blemishes to scar.

Over the years I have learnt to look for skin care products that include Salicylic Acid. This wonder ingredient can help promote clearer skin as it gently dissolves the top layer of the skin, removing dead skin cell build up and removing any signs of skin congestion - all without drying out the skin. Couple this menthol which cools and calms, along with Elderflower (apparently it can minimise the appearance of enlarged pores) and Grapeseed oil (to balance out the skin's moisture levels), and you have a hard-working, effective scrub that will leave your skin softer than soft, minus any irritation. In my opinion, Una Brennan Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Anti Blemish Purify and Refresh Facial, is a great, fail safe form of manual exfoliation, that you can rely on regardless of the condition of your skin.

Una Brennan Super Facialist Rose Brighten and Refine Facial Scrub
£5.99/150ml via Boots - link.

If you have normal to dry skin and don't count blemishes to be a real problem, then may I recommend Una Brennan Super Facialist Rose Brighten and Refine Facial Scrub. Again this contains menthol to soothe, calm and cool the skin, but compared to the aforementioned scrub this is a little richer and generally more nourishing in formulation.

Along with gently removing any dead skin cells and polishing the skin to reveal a soft and glowing complexion - much like you'd expect - Una Brennan Super Facialist Rose Brighten and Refine Facial Scrub contains natural moisturisers such as Pro Vitamin B5 and White Willow. On the skin it almost feelings like a mask opposed to a gritty, standard face scrub, making it perfect for the upcoming Autumn/Winter weather when you want a facial treatment that both softens and nourishes.

If I have one grumble about Una Brennan Super Facialist Salicylic Acid Anti Blemish Purify and Refresh Facial (aside from the fact it is not really suited to my skin needs), it would be the fragrance. I personally found the rose scent to be overwhelming and do worry that it could be an irritant to those with easily sensitised skin. If you do fall into such camp, I would suggest patch testing this product before applying all over your face just to be safe.

As a slightly unrelated note, this particular scrub is rather wonderful when used on the body - nothing removes old self tanner quite like it!
