It's Winter and along with the season of good will and excessive eating (well at least that is my plans), I can almost guarantee we all dread one thing. No, not pretending to absolutely love the bizarre gift, a twice removed relative has bestowed upon you, rather chapped lips! If you are anything like me (a serial lip bitter and licker, sexy I know!), it is a case of when rather than if. Medicated lip balms are great for healing Winter beaten lips but to prevent it from happening in the first place, may I recommend two super moisturising lip balms: one for day time use and one for slicking on before calling it a night? If that seems a little indulgent, or maybe you only have room in your life for one Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm let me help make the decision a little easier.

As you can see there are two Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm formulations to choose from: one is the better known and often raved about jar formulation; the other a lighter, pocket sized and oh so convenient stick. Bizarrely the textures and benefits somewhat vary across the two balms not to mention as do the price points.

I've mentioned before that it took me the longest time to pluck up the courage to purchase the now iconic Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm (apparently one is sold every few seconds), and that was for one reason only - honey is a core ingredient and I hate honey. Luckily this uses honey as moisturising ingredient (along with plant oils, shea butter and grapefruit essence for a truly nourishing balm) rather than relying on to scent the product - the fragrance is more akin with lemon curd than anything else.

The texture is what makes Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm but in some ways it is also what breaks it; for some it will be too thick and uncomfortable. I personally liken it to a silicone based primer (think along the lines of Benefit The Porefessional) - it is soft, silken but a little on the thick side, I personally don't find this to be a problem but do want to stress it is not a weightless balm. The other issue I find is that the slight yellow hue of the balm does leave the lips looking a little paler and dare I say more matte in finish that usual. For that reason alone, I tend to apply a thick layer of Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm at night before heading to bed and find it acts as a sleep mask for the lips - if such thing existed. The next morning my lips are soft, plump and free from any annoying dry/flaky patches. That's not to say you can't utilise this balm any time of the day because you can and rest assure that it will remain intact, constantly nourishing your lips for around 3 hours per application.

Sadly Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm is not a miracle worker - it will not heal cracked lips, for that you will need something medicated or the gift of patience but for dried out, winter beaten lips you will not find a more heavy duty balm than this.

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick £4.40 - link

After discovering the original Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm and discovering just how wonderful it was, I decided to also purchase the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick, more for convenience than anything else - I don't really enjoy dipping my fingers into lip balm. Sadly I was initially disappointed with the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick, the problem is that like most I compared the formula of the stick to the original - huge mistake!

Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick is best described as a lighter alternative to the original Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm; a little sister version of iconic balm, that you can pop in your pocket for on the go hydration. I must stress that lighter is the core descriptive term here - Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick, glides on to the lips with ease, is almost non-scented and does deliver a quick dose of hydration. Ingredients include: Precious Sunflower, Macadamia Nut Oils, Barley Extract, Argan Oil and Shea Butter, which as you can tell somewhat differs from the jar version of this balm.

No, the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick won't resolve the most dried out of lips but it is a great, every day balm for preventing dry skin to begin with. As it is almost scent free, light and weightless it is a balm that you will not mind slicking on several times a day - it is great for teaming with lip liner and/or matte lipsticks to combat the drying sensation.

Basically in regards to Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Stick you should forget everything you have come to expect from the Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balm; treat this as an individual, stand alone product, rather than your favourite balm in stick form.

Which of the two Nuxe Rêve de Miel Lip Balms do you prefer? Or are you a little like myself and believe that each has a place within your collection but for different purposes.
