Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Bittersweet

In a bid to step out of my comfort zone I purchased a purple blush, yes really. The Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blushes are fairly newly launched and as most can't get enough of the well pigmented formula I thought I'd treat myself to one, and in the boldest shade at that. Let me share my thoughts and experiences with Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Bittersweet.

What I love about Urban Decay is that their packaging style is unlike others; as a brand they don't tend to cutesy, rather they have a toughed, almost industrial feel when it comes to packaging. The new-ish Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blushes are no different, they come presented within compact, plastic, chrome effect casing that is both unusual and robust. The dinky size is ideal for travel and yet it is not so small that you feel like you have been short changed. As you can see there is no mirror inside the compact, rather it features a cut out Urban Decay logo with a fishnet design - this is to allow to see what shade is inside at a glance. The fishnet grating inside is also ideal for running your brush over to ensure there isn't too much product on it - clever huh?

The Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blushes come in 12 shades - from bright pops of colour, to muted pinks and bronzes. I kid you not when I say there truly is something for every taste and complexion - I wouldn't expect anything less from Urban Decay, would you? As mentioned, I purchased the shade Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush in Bittersweet, a non too typical shade and one I think will be neigh impossible to dupe. In the pan Urban Decay Bittersweet is a bright shocking purple, it has a strong pink undertone and yet once swatched and applied it takes on a different appearance again. On the skin and depending on the light source and level of product applied, I find Bittersweet to appear either as a milky lilac or a mauve tinged purple. It is confusing but equally flattering and is not at all as tricky to apply as I had imagined - I worried that overkill may result in a bruised effect which isn't the case. As a bonus this shade can also double up as an eyeshadow.

If you have experienced an Urban Decay eyeshadow in the past, you will know that the brand do one thing very, very well and that is pigmentation and let's just say that the blushes don't disappoint. A soft, almost satin like texture that is beyond colour saturated (approach with a light hand) and easy to pick up, apply and blend, all with next to no fall out. The texture is light, not prone to settling into enlarged pores nor fine lines and wears well with or without a primer - I typically achieve 8 hours of true wear per application on my oily complexion. There is no over sell, the Urban Decay Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blushes deliver all they promise - nothing more, nothing less and I fully recommend trying out at least one shade, I know I will be collecting a few more.
