Make Your Own Sea Salt Body Scrub

On a whim I bought a huge bag of sea salt, I have no real idea why either but here we are. In a bid to use the salt and add more natural based products to my routine, I have whipped up a simple, albeit basic sea salt body scrub. Much like last week's sea salt hair mist this only contains three ingredients and again they are all completely natural. The beauty of this scrub is that you can alter the method to suit your needs and change the essential oil/s to treat various skin conditions, needs and ailments.

Make Your Own Sea Salt Body Scrub

What you will need:
A jar or tub to hold the scrub once made.
One cup of sea salt
Approx 5 tablespoons of natural oil (olive, coconut or almond oil)
A few drops of an essential oil of your choice

Method:
1, Should the natural oil of your choice be in solid form you will have to gently melt. I do this using a pot and the stove, that way I can gently warm the coconut oil without over doing it - so easily done in a microwave. If the oil is already in liquid form skip to step 2.
2, Combine the oil, salt and essential oil in a container and gently stir.
3, Allow to cool (if needed) and then use as you would any other body scrub. I must stress that as this is a fairly abrasive scrub it is best to use on damp skin, opposed to dry. If you do find the natural scrub to be a little too harsh you can always and a little more coconut (or your chosen oil) to the mix.

As mentioned above you can select the essential oil to suit your skins needs (or skip if you have sensitised skin). For blemish prone skin, a great addition is Tea Tree or Witch Hazel as they are natural astringents. To help de-congest you might want to try Eucalyptus. To calm the senses you might want to reach for Lavender and Chamomile oils - a great pre-bed treatment and for those concerned with scarring, a great addition to any scrub is a few drops of carrot seed oil which may promote skin rejuvenation.
