Today Yves Saint Laurent launches the follow up scent to their now well loved and in my case, well worn Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau De Parfum - Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau De Toilette. Think the same beloved, coffee come floral hit of scent, only softer, fresher, easier to wear - dare I say it more day appropriate and suited to the currently humid weather.
To set it aside from its sister fragrance, Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau De Toilette come presented in a slightly different bottle. The original Black Opium scent featured a black, glitter adorned casing - the new eau de toilette version continues with the glitter theme, only with an altogether blackened rose effect. Both are truly beautiful but I do have a soft spot, for the new spin on Black Opium and dare I say it bottle too.
The new take on YSL Black Opium is fresher and softer, it does smell familiar yet different at the same time - rich, comforting and light, I realise that sounds baffling but if you compare them in store you'll completely understand. I see Black Opium EDP as the Autumn/Winter ready scent and the EDT as the more green tinged Spring/Summer option. The eau de toilette version does feature a coffee note much like the original, only it is an ultra-luminous green coffee accord coupled with a heart of jasmine tea, on a base of sensual patchouli, white woods and musk. To keep it bright, uplifting and a little more fruity, YSL Black Opium Eau De Toilette blackcurrant, pear and green mandarin essence.
All of the above may sound great to those already familiar with the YSL Black Opium scents, if not I would liken it to having an overall similar vibe to Thierry Mugler Angel, only less intense and chocolate based. Don't let the eau de toilette category throw you, Yves Saint Laurent Black Opium Eau De Toilette is long wearing - I can easily detect it on my clothes, skin and hair.
I think I may like this more than the original!

I like Black Opium a lot more than the original. It's one of my favorite scents at the moment. :)

Wow this sounds right up my alley! The original eau de parfum was a bit too heavy for me.

I have the original Black Opium which I only bought recently and agree it's definitely more suited to autumn / winter but still a lovely scent. This one sounds great too but I don't think I can justify the two right now! x

I've never been near Black Opium despite hearing so many great things about it. I really don't need another perfume but I'm sure smelling this perfume won't hurt...famous last words.
