As a beauty blogger I do tend to concentrate on newer and dare I say it more exciting launches and collections. I do however believe that there are some products that shouldn't be overlooked, items that have pride of place within my collection and perhaps yours too? For that reason alone, once a week I am going to dedicate a post to what I deem to be a beauty classic; a review and explanation to why you should try such products at least once in your lifetime. Kicking things of we have my jacket pocket essential - Carmex Lip Balm.
Carmex Lip Balm has been around for over 80 years and has been voted the most recommended lip balm since 1999 - impressive wouldn't you agree? Let's forget why others rate the now iconic yellow packaged balm and let me tell you why I forever have a jar, tube or stick on my person at all times. First and foremost, it is one of the few lip balms I have owned or tried that actually heals chapped lips, it is medicated using camphor and menthol (it is also what provides the natural and instantly recognisable scent) to speed up the natural recovery process, act as pain relief and to calm inflamed skin.
Typically I don't rate nor recommend petroleum based products but as Carmex uses it combined with other ingredients to form an almost invisible "bandage" for the lips I can't complain. The idea is that by using such ingredient a water tight seal is formed, trapping in moisture and of course allowing intensive healing to take place. I've used Carmex for years and believe this may be the very reason to why it works so well. Carmex lip balms don't just heal the lips they also deeply moisturise, using Lanolin to mimic the way skin naturally retains moisture.
- Carmex Lip Balm now comes in many forms and fragrances but for me nothing beats the original either in pot or stick form; quick and easy to apply, long lasting, fast acting, solves just about every typical lip compliant - not to mention it is both cheap and readily available. If you have yet to try it, come on over to the yellow side - I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
You can find Carmex Lip Balm via Boots with prices starting at £1.65 - link.
You can also find it via Superdrug, most high street chemists and Supermarkets too!
By far my favourite lip balm, although I do prefer the tube version

Carmex is such a classic & a great one at that. I have repurchased it so many times.

I love that little pot of Carmex! It's my nighttime lip balm of choice, stays on till the morning so my lips don't get dry or cracked through the night!

I love this lip balm. It is actually not that well known here but a friend introduced me a few years ago and while i had to import it from Britain, about 2 years ago i finally found it in one Belgian drugstore. Yay. I never want to be without it again.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVE Carmex, it's just a shame that it is one of those products I just tend to forget exists. I like the idea of this weekly segment of classics, as I do feel like in the beauty blogging world there's a constant race to constantly have the newest and fanciest products.

I like your idea of reviewing classic products. I too have been using the lip balm on and off for years. I love it when I rekindle a liking for a product that just works. I don’t have a sample of this one at the mo as currently I am using a lip balm variation from the brand with pomegranate in it which is good also. Thanks for this post, it was interesting!! :-) xx

I find that carmex is my go-to moisturiser when I really need to heal my lips rather than an every day thing. It's so good as a restorative product!

I love Carmex but I've only tried the tubes, never the pot. I love the original one as well as the mint one and they are my second favourite lipbalm after Burt's Bees.
ReplyDeleteThis is my absolute number one essential handbag item, love it
ReplyDeleteCarmex has been my favorite forever and I'm so glad it's getting some well deserved praise! I have friends who hate it and swear it makes their lips worse. Not the case for me! I prefer the tube version and usually put it on before bed so I wake up to soft and protected lips in the morning. Love love!
ReplyDeleteA classic yet I've never tried it before!

I actually had to wean myself off Carmex and a quick google told me that there are many of us who feel the same way- it makes the problem temporarily better, but much worse in the long run! I found that this wasn't a treatment I'd apply if my lips were in bad condition, but something that I HAD to apply hourly. Shame :(
ReplyDeleteI find myself going back to this whenever my lips cannot be saved by any other lip balm. So nice that it's getting the praise it deserves!

I absolutely love Carmex, especially the strawberry & cherry ones! I have to admit the Dr Paw Paw balm has recently swayed my attention from it but I'll always come back to Carmex :)

I love Carmex, I have it in the tube form and it really does heal my lips!

I love Carmex for the daytime and then uses something more heavy duty during the night, like Nuxe Reve de Miel, as it tends to stay longer on the lips cause its more waxy consistency. But Carmex is a lot easier to throw on throughout the day and really moisturises my lips!

I loveeeeee carmex - you can also pick it up in Primark, which is where I normally indulge myself to a new pot - they have it in those little pots and stands by the tills - which is just plain dangerous with people like me on the loose! I don't know of any other product that sorts out my pout as well as Carmex; I'll never stray!

Even though I feel like I've tried all the balms available, I still keep coming back to Carmex. Especially now it's in a tube!
