Topshop Contour Creams

I love contouring products, I don't use them everyday but rather for special occasions. My preferred method is a good buffing brush and a cream based, cool toned brown for natural definition. Typically I use dark concealer but newly on the agenda is two new cream contour creams from Topshop which cost just £9 each.

If you are familiar with Topshop's cream blushes then both the packaging and the consistency of the Topshop Contour Creams will not be too much of a surprise to you. The Topshop Contour Creams come in small, matte black compacts that flip open to present not only the cream product inside but also a good sized mirror. In a nutshell? Aesthetically pleasing, well sized, easy to clean and robust. You can't really ask for much more in terms of packaging can you?

"Sculpt and add definition to the skin using our cream to powder contour creams. Our soft blendable cream contours to give a soft matte finish to the skin and creates sculpted shape. Apply with fingers or stippling brush to the hollows of the cheeks, temples, halo of the forehead and blend out."

The Topshop Contour Creams come in two shades: Sweep - a light, matte cool toned brown, best suited to light/medium complexions; and Swerve - a deep and again cool matte toned brown which is intended for medium/deep skin tones. Admittedly in pan form both shades look rather daunting but once applied they are fairly sheer yet can be applied in layers to create the colour intensity desired. Although cool toned which is far more natural than a warm brown or general bronzer for that matter both shades lack the grey undertone which I find desirable within contour products. I do have to commend Topshop for offering two shades rather than a one shade suits all approach.

Much like the Topshop Cream Blushes the Contour Creams are soft but not so much so that they melt with ease, they are firm to touch so you do not have to worry about over loading your brush nor fingers. As mentioned the Topshop Contour Creams are fairly sheer so you don't have to worry to much in your approach to application, thus far I have found that dotting my choose shade into the hollows of my cheeks and blending out with a dense, flat top brush to be the best method for me. Having said that the firm texture does lend itself well to the natural heat of the fingertips should you want to forgo the brush completely. Although not intensely pigmented they do layer well and blend with ease making them a great first step into the world of contouring.
