Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3

As little as five days ago Lush expanded their reach of the Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3. Previously only available within the Gorilla Perfume store in London and online this collective will now roll out into Lush stores nationwide. If you were expecting a light, floral and dare I say it twee collection, think again as this collective of five fragrances are based of death, decay and renewal. It may sound a little morbid but as always each Lush Gorilla Perfume has its own story based on the creators personal experiences - this alone is appealing to me, it feels old school, not as mass marketed and soulless.

Today I was kindly sent three of the new Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3 fragrances to try out, which I will work through this week. It is clearly very early days but I do have to say that Lush Kerbside Violet may be my personal favourite. Below is a quick break down on all five scents...

Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3

Lush Kerbside Violet £9-£36
"Elusive and evocative, sweet violet is captured here in its diminutive glory. Kerbside Violet is inspired by chance encounters and fleeting moments. A breath of serenity allowing you to slow down and notice the tiny revolution growing through the cracks of a concrete jungle near you. " If you enjoy violet based scents then this is one you will find hard to pass up on, it is somewhat similar to Tom Ford Violet Blonde and Marc Jacobs Daisy. Parma Violets amped up to the extreme.

Lush Dear John £7-£42
"Dear John is an assuring, manly fragrance, loved by women and men. Evocative of cosy, relaxing nights in a log cabin, cedarwood gives it a calming, earthy scent. It also has a warm citrus splash with a strong coffee note and a hint of pine and tobacco from smoky vetivert. Notes: lime, pine, coffee, clove, cedarwood, coriander, vetivert."Last July I attended the Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3 press launch and being the geek that I am I made notes on each scent. I know, just when you think I can't get any cooler ha! Anyway my notes say this smells like my Granddad, slightly musky, familiar and comforting. I wouldn't personally wear this but love the sense of nostalgia it brings.

Lush Death and Decay £8-£40
"The pure scent of lily mingles with over-ripe tones of indole to give this fragrance a pungent, narcotic headiness. Let it transport you to a serene space where the fullness of beauty and its inevitable decay can be contemplated without fear. The message is one of meditation, acceptance and optimism delivered in a glorious, floral flourish." This is oddly floral and a lot lighter than you'd assume, I'll update in a few days with a full review once I have gathered my thoughts.

"Capturing Mark's father's verdant South African garden, full of light and bright colours, experience a rush of sunny lemon and juicy lime. This uplifting, tribute fragrance exudes sweet citrus with a sharp twist that lingers on the skin and in the mind. Linger under the Lemon Tree and luxuriate in the warmth of the sun on the nape of your neck." I don't have a sample of this but as mentioned I did attend the launch and I can recall this being my favourite, it is masculine yet bright and citrus based. It reminds me a little of Tom Ford fragrances.

Lush All Good Things £10-£40
"Succumb to this rich, sensual and smoky blend of all good things. Both bitter and sweet, representing a parting of ways and celebrating new beginnings. A sweet, boozy stumble down a dark basement staircase will leave you in a blissed out cloud of candyfloss and black pepper."Again I will review in full but this has a very incense based scent, it reminds me of attending a hippy market abroad when I was a child. Bright and mystical is perhaps the best description I can currently muster.

I have linked all of the above Lush Gorilla Perfume Volume 3 to Lush individually but you can now also find them in-store should you want to try before you buy. In all honesty if you have access to a Lush store I fully recommend popping in-store and testing as fragrance is such a subjective thing.
