Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit

Little known fact Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit is Kim Kardashian's contour kit of choice (powder at least), in fact she stated this a few years ago before the Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit was available for general purchase and pretty much encouraged the brand to bring it back. Well low and behold as of a few months ago Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit creeped back on to counters ans as a result sold out countless times. I was lucky enough to be gifted a kit and can see why Kim Kardashian rather enjoys it.

Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit contains all you need to sculpt the entire face, the compact kit contains three well sized powders: a bronzer, a contour powder and a highlighter as well as a brush and step by step guide. The contour brush that is supplied is a little on the small side, the brush head is angled, dense and of decent quality but if I am entirely honest I don't use it to contour. The small size is great for adding highlighter to the tops of my cheekbones but otherwise I reach for larger and altogether.

So yes three wells of powder each of which have been intended for different uses. From left to right we have the following powders: a light and ashen grey toned contour powder, a warm toned yet natural light golden bronzing powder and lastly a slightly yellow toned, matte highlighting powder. Each powder is soft to the touch, finely milled and well pigmented but easy to blend out. If like myself you aren't the best at contouring or don't have a light hand (again guilty), this is a great kit to begin your contouring journey with. The step by step guide provided makes it fool proof to apply, it also doesn't hurt that neither the bronzer or contour powder are muddy meaning it looks natural each and every application. If you like to add a little light to your face but don't want a shimmer based highlighting powder then the highlighter within the Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit will be something you enjoy. Although it is matte, much like the other two powders it is not heavy, chalky and oddly it looks entirely natural on the face. I rather like it for blending down my nose and to set under eye make-up.

My only gripe with the Smashbox Step by Step Contour Kit is that it only comes in one shade option which will not suit all. Typically speaking I would imagine that it will be great for most light to medium complexions but any skin tone that veers deep or pale may be left in the cold. I like how fuss free the kit is, the texture and pigmentation of the powders but would love to see more colour options in the future.
