On Saturday I was invited down to Boots Braehead to discover the No7 Match Made Lipstick Service for myself. You may be familiar with the concept thanks to the current adverts which feature the Jessie J track "Sexy Lady"? Well let me tell you exactly how the No7 Match Made Lipstick Service works and what I think of the whole concept...
Like most women I have a favoured lipstick shade, that one lipstick that I will wear daily as I feel it suits me. Again like most it happens to be a nude hue, well a pinky nude hue MAC Angel to be exact. I don't really have the confidence for bright lipsticks and don't always feel like they suit me at the best of times. How many times has a friend said "oh I bet you'd look great in a red lipstick" and you think yeah great but in a sea of a million red lipsticks which would suit me?
Enter the No7 Match Made Lipstick Service which uses a quick gadget to scan the skin which in turn not only tells you which foundation shade you are but also what shades of lipstick within the
No7 Match Made Moisture Drench and No7 Match Made Stay Perfect Lipstick lines which are your ideal matches. The best thing about the whole service is that it is so quick and easy, you don't even need to take your make-up off which is a bonus as far as I am concerned. The little
No7 Match Made gadget quickly scans your skin, determines your skin tone and then you can use the provided shade card to try out the recommended lipstick choices. Easy peasy. You can watch the whole process here - link.
On Saturday I was lucky enough not only to have my own consultation but to also sit in on others and was surprised by just how many ladies went for the brighter lip colour than a play it safe nude. One woman told me it was the first time in years in which she had dared look at a red lipstick but really enjoyed being matched properly. The Boots No7 Match Made Lipstick Service is free, quick and fun not to mention really interesting as an over all concept. I thoroughly recommend checking it out next time you are in Boots.
I usually have a No7 lipstick shade called Modesty, a lovely neutral slightly pink shade. I go in to No7 and find they have no neutrals at all. I have my shade match done and try every single one the lovely sales assistant gives me. All so bright! She says they don't have neutrals any more. I find it so disappointing. If you look at the general public not many people wear bright colours.
ReplyDeleteI like the concept of it but find the colours very limiting if you want a neutral shade.

This is such a good idea! I have trouble finding the right shade to go with my pale skin, might have to pop into Boots so they can do it for me!

I am a little intrigued by No. 7's matching service but I've never actually tried any of their lipsticks. Perhaps this is a good excuse to do so.

I did this and the colours are great, but I'm still a bit skeptical... if you go on their website to look up the lipstick colours that suit your foundation colour, they have a lot of the lipstick colours repeated throughout the entire collection of foundations shades, for warm and cool skin tones! Something that really suits a cool tone would not suit a warm skin tone, and vice versa, so I'm unsure about how true a match it really is? Still worth a go though! :)

I was really excited about this service (and I loved the ad and music for it too!), but I was actually a bit disappointed when I went. I had already previously had my foundation shade determined - where they do actually take off a little bit of makeup from your jawline to get the results - so that didn't need to be done again when I went for the lip service. So all they did was hand me a card with shade choices on to match my foundation shade.
ReplyDeleteIn all honestly I thought it would be more than that, for example taking hair or eye colour into consideration too, but oh well.

I love the idea of this, im one who is happy wearing bold shade but i think it would give loads of confidence to those who only think they can wear nudes!
