Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers

Recently everyone has been recommending the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers, telling me that they were worth the wait and one of the best lip glosses they have tried. With recommendations like that I simply had to purchase a few shades - I was also urged on by the Superdrug buy one, get one half price offer. It is only fair that I mention I'm really not a lip gloss fan but they are pleasant enough to wear...

The packaging of the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers is rather deceiving, the inner casing is shaped like a lipstick when in fact it is a balm like textured lip gloss. Naughty Maybelline. The Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers are fairly dinky in size and comfortably fit in the palm of my hand and feature a screw top lid complete with a doe foot applicator. Said applicator is angled and flat in shape so that it easily and evenly coats the lips with one quick swipe with zero mess. No complaints what so ever.

After a quick look online it seems that there is 11 shades here in the UK (there could well be more), I would have purchased a nude and coral hue had there been un-tampered products to do so. I have been purchasing make-up for over 10 years now and still don't understand why people open stock rather than testing the tester product. It infuriates me and I don't even work in retail. Gah! Anyway rant over I walked away with the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers in the shades: 105 Petal Plush which is a yellow toned medium pink that oddly contains glitter. You can not see it on the lips in my opinion and it doesn't feel gritty. My guess is that it is to help create a plumping effect. The other shade I have is 705 Blush Essence which is a slightly deeper pink with a strong blue undertone. This does not contain glitter at all. It is important to mention that neither shade is terribly pigmented and rather than masking the natural lip colour they add a tint - much like the vast majority of lip glosses out there.

The obvious comparison to make with the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers is to compare them to YSL Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Lip Stains. The Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers are the closest dupe to the aforementioned YSL product and are almost identical in formula - shade options aside. If you like the idea of a thicker, non-sticky yet utterly moisturising lip product that is glossy and offers a wash of subtle colour this is the product for you. On the lips the Maybelline Color Elixir Lip Lacquers feel like a thick lip balm and really do hydrate the lips. Despite being a heavier texture they are not uncomfortable but you will be very aware that you have something on your lips. They are not prone to bleeding, smudging or smearing but will wear off quickly with general eating and drinking. I wore test both shades yesterday and I managed around two hours of wear at the very, very most. Long wearing they are not (nor ideal for a windy day) but if you want a moisturising, glossy, sheer lip product this is the one for you.
