Biotin Hair Growth

Let me tell you a little something about myself. I am a complete hypochondriac.
No really, I am. I enjoy nothing more than Googling symptoms and making a mountain out of a mole hill. Did you know that in the Summer we shed more hair than normal? A little like a cat or dog, apparently we do it to keep cool. Yeah me neither, last year I convinced myself I was going bald and spent a whole afternoon looking at lace front wigs. I drive my family crazy but the good news is that research does often lead me to pretty cool finds. For instance such melodramatic melt down lead me to finding out that Biotin can help to speed up the process of hair growth (as well as nails) and can improve the keratin infrastructure (a basic protein that makes up hair, skin and nails) resulting in stronger, healthy hair. Yep you best believe that I was sold on the spot.

Biotin Hair Growth

I have been taking Biotin supplements since last year, I only take one 300mg tablet each day and did consult my doctor beforehand, which I strongly recommend you do too should you decide to take Biotin supplements. The older I become the more sensible and health concious I am (no really) so it is only fair that I let you know that you really do have to keep hydrated with Biotin other wise it can create blemish prone skin. Personally it gave me the much needed kick up the bum to drink more water and had the opposite effect on my skin - more water has equated in better skin for me. Anyway you can to hear about my hair growth, if you have ever meet me chances is you will have noticed my roots, re-growth if you will. At the moment I am blonde but my roots due to the Biotin are out of control and I'm swaying with going back to brunette as monthly trips to the hairdresser is really my idea of hell. My hair is nearly waist length, one inch away, in good condition despite being prone to being a little dry and I do credit Biotin for this. About two years ago my hair was at my chin so for me it definitely works, I can't comment on the thickness claims that others have reported. I have always had really thick hair. Oddly Biotin has done nothing for my nails but then again I do enjoy a set of falsies or two so that could be to blame?

If you don't want to take Biotin as a supplement there is a hair care line which I also use - OGX Thick and Full Biotin and Collagen Collection. Apparently it is the best selling OGX line up in the USA? Unlike the supplements this aims to create the illusion of thicker and fuller hair and infuses the hair with collagen to prevent breakage which I guess in turn could help hair growth i.e less snapped strands would equate to longer hair in the long run? Personally I only use the conditioner within this collection and apply it as a pre-shampoo conditioning treat once a week. I like to think that much like the Lee Stafford For Hair That Doesn't Grow Past A Certain Length treatment it does a little something. It may be a placebo, who knows but I am happy and as the OGX products only cost £6.99 each who am I hurting? It conditions really well, leaves my hair feeling soft and doesn't irritate my scalp. Any hair growth really is a bonus. You can find the entire OGX Biotin and Collagen Collection via Boots - link.

I purchase my Biotin supplements from Holland and Barrett but urge you to consult your doctor before starting anything new. It never hurts to be safe or informed for that matter!
