Illamasqua Matte Veil

To join the already existing and much loved Illamasqua Hydra Veil the brand have launched a matte version for all of us who suffer from oily skin or simply want to create a beautiful, even velvet base. As someone who has often has a shiny, oil ridden face I was very excited to put Illamasqua Matte Veil to the test.

The packaging for Illamasqua Matte Veil is very similar to the Hydra version only this time around the pot is matte in finish. I believe the general idea is to make it easier to spot and differentiate between the two be it on the shop floor or within your make-up collection. At £30 Illamasqua Matte Veil is not going to be the cheapest primer you will use or find but it is a sizeable pot and comes complete with its own little scoop so you can easily and accurately dispense just the right amount of product for ease use.

Illamasqua Matte Veil has a different texture from the Hydra Veil, this time around you have a smooth almost liquid like balm which is easy to smooth on to the skin, unlike many primers this is light and has a barely there texture once applied. After a quick Google of the ingredients you will be pleased to hear that this is one of the few matte primers available that isn't weighed down by heavy silicone additions which in turn should make it suited to even the most sensitive of skins. I'm no expert when it comes to chemistry but I'm almost (and say almost because I may be wrong) that Illamasqua Matte Veil is silicone free! Another bonus is that it has next to no scent and although it has a light, peachy tint this does not translate onto the skin - rather it brightens the complexion.

So what does Illamasqua Matte Veil do? It smooths and softens the skin for one and although a matte product it is not drying on the skin which so many are. As some of us who suffer from oily skin may have a dehydrated complexion this has been formulated in a way to prevent the skin from drying out further all the while keeping excess oil at bay. It is rather clever and opens the primer up to all skin types - dry skin won't end up tight or uncomfortable but will stay matte. I also find that it helps to blur my enlarged pores as well as generally prolonging foundation wear. In terms of wear I found that on my oily skin the Illamasqua Matte Veil warded of excess oil for around 8 hours before my t-zone began to look a little shiny but the rest of my make-up remained matte and fresh.
