Not so long ago I simply had to own Ben Nye's Banana Powder which I do use for evening wear when coated in self tanner to keep highlighted areas on my face light (a tip most of us are familiar with thanks to Kim Kardashian). However a yellow toned powder can also counter redness and generally brighten the overall complexion. For all those wishing not only for a lighter and better quality yellow setting powder than Ben Nye Banana Powder I present MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose Powder in Neutralize.
The packaging of the new MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose Powders which come in four shades all of which do what they say on the tin : Adjust (peach), Neutralize (yellow), Illuminate (Lavender) and Recharge (Apricot) come in little screw top jars with an in-built powder sifter. Annoyingly the sifter tends to release a lot more powder than you will ever use making it a messy affair which will more than likely result is product waste. That aside the jar is pleasing enough on the eye and and does have a secure lid meaning it will travel well.
Now don't get me wrong I do like Ben Nye's Banana Powder but if you have a light complexion it simply won't work as it is rather pigmented as far as loose powders go and in my experience it is a little heavy on the under eye area for everyday use. MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose Powder in Neutralize is the complete opposite - a soft focus pale yellow that will work with all skin tones to brighten and neutralize any signs of redness where applied. Unlike the Ben Nye version this has been formulated to blur imperfections such as enlarged pores and fine lines making it more on par with a good quality HD powder rather than your bog standard loose powder. Some tinted powders can feel heavy on the skin but I have to admit that the MAC Prep + Prime CC Colour Correcting Loose Powder formula is light and almost feels velvet like. I wouldn't typically wear this particular shade all over my face but in order to fully test the powders capabilities I did use it to set a full face of make-up and found that not only did it prolong make-up wear but it worked wonderfully at keeping oil at bay. Oddly enough other than somewhat brightening and diminishing any red tones within my skin this loose powder did not alter the over all colour of my foundation and it is one of the few powder formulations that I would wear alone (no foundation, no nothing).
At £20 for 8g this is a little more expensive than Ben Nye's Banana Powder but in my opinion it is far superior and by far more universally flattering.

The last banana colored powder I've tried was by Benefit and it was way too yellow. You got me curious about this Mac CC powder's texture. I'll go test it out soon. Hopefully, I'll like it as much as you did.
ReplyDeleteI have both and I like the Ben Nye one better but MAC has silica which blurs fine lines a bit I guess...
