New Real Techniques Retractable Brushes

Four new Real Techniques brushes have just launched here in the UK and the running theme seems to be that of convenience with three out of the four new additions being retractable brushes. If you carry make-up brushes around daily this could be just what you are looking for?

As a huge fan of the Real Techniques brush line (about half of my brush collection is Real Techniques) I was excited to try the new additions. The Real Techniques Retractable Bronzer brush is the one tool I struggled with, for me it is a traditional stippling brush that veers a little flimsy. It has been created for use with powder specifically bronzer and I feel the general concept was to fashion a brush that allows the user to create a light finish hence why it is not as densely packed as the other powder brushes within the line. Personally I didn't really get on with this brush, when used with powder I find it lacks the preciseness I crave and also found it doesn't pick up enough product on the bristles for my needs meaning what is normally a two second job turns into a five minute task. I did try it with liquid foundation as it is what I deem a stippling brush and found the brush head a little too large to control and noticed it did soak up a lot of the liquid rather than dispersing it evenly on to my skin. But it is not all doom and glow if you ever apply make-up to your body this is the perfect brush for doing so as it is so large and as it has a chunky handle it is easy to use on large areas of skin.

Speaking of brushes with large handles I suggest that if you contour on a daily basis you get your mitts on the Real Techniques Retractable Kabuki Brush which is a multi-tasking brush if ever there was one. The brush head of this offering is more of what we expect from the brand - soft yet dense and akin to the RT blush brush. The angled head means you can easily and dare I say it expertly apply powder products to the cheeks - being chiselled means it works wonderfully with contouring products as it allows for precise application. It can also be used with liquid products to easily buff the product into the skin for a seamless application. I personally like to apply blush and as it is retractable and comes complete with its own lid you can pop it in your handbag without fear of staining the lining (can't just be me who worries about this). If you buy one RT Retractable Brush let it be this.

The last retractable brush within the range is the oh so handy lip brush which has a great firm texture allowing you to precisely fill in your lips with your chosen lip colour without feeling harsh on the lips. The brush head is slightly angled too for ease of use and much like the other brushes it comes with its own lid so again you can use it for travel without worry. If I go on a night out I don't actually take my lipstick out with me for fear of leaving it in a bathroom etc rather I load a lip brush with a enough lipstick for a few applications and pop it in my bag, this brush would be perfect for that!

Lastly we have the rather genius Real Techniques Silicone Liner Brush which is not really a brush due to the fact it has no brush bristles rather a soft silicone nib that can be used to line both the eyes and lips. Despite not being a traditional brush it is just as soft and dare I say it a whole lot easier to use when it comes to eye liner as it is so streamlined and sturdy - simply dip in your chosen make up product and drag alone the skin and let it do all the work for you. As this is silicone it is so much easier to clean and it doesn't stain like a typical brush, for that reason alone I recommend it to beauty bloggers as it allows you to swatch several lip colours without having to deep cleanse - simply wipe with a tissue and you can use it again. I am a fan.
