At the moment I am kicking myself as I only bought a mini pot of Make Up Forever HD High Definition Powder and now that I've nearly completed said pot I can not find the full size version here in the UK. Sods law! Anyway if you are a fan of HD setting powders or on the look out to try one you can't do much better than Make Up Forever HD High Definition Powder in my opinion, I also hear that Kim Kardashian is a fan.
A quick run down of the packaging - a small screw top jar (the larger size is the exact same only on a bigger scale) with a built in sifter. The jar is air tight and really robust but due to the small size I found it easier to disperse a little powder onto the back of my hand to dip my brush into as the jar was too dinky to fit a large powder brush. No complaints what so ever.
So just what is a HD Powder and why should you use one? Basically the Makeup Forever HD High Definition Powder is a setting powder that will give the skin a natural finish not too matte yet not dewy without altering the shade of the foundation beneath. As someone who has oily skin and finds the majority of powders to oxidise let me tell you this is a god send and as it is universal (one shade suits all) it takes the guess work out of purchasing. The make-up forever version is made from 100 percent-mineral silica which has been chosen to almost blur the appearance of imperfections such as fine lines and enlarged pores both of which I find to be true. It is also one of the most weightless powder products I have used that leaves the skin beautifully set and feeling velvety soft.
One problem with this powder and all HD products of this kind is that you do have to be careful when applying not to be heavy handed as it can produce rather visible and dreaded flash back (Google Nicole Kidman powder and you will see what I mean). Also if you apply too much it can almost leave the skin looking dead and rather flat - yes it is Halloween but no-one other than those in fancy dress really want to achieve such look on a daily basis do they? Flash back aside I do truly adore this powder and find it to work really well with my oily and enlarge pore ridden skin - it not only sets my foundation wonderfully, keeping oil at bay for up to 8 hours (yes really) but it blurs my pores without the need for filler products such as Benefit Porefessional et all.
A re-purchase? You betcha!
In the UK you can find Makeup Forever HD High Definition Powder via guru makeup emporium - link£12.50/5g and those with access to Sephora you can find it here - link
(The UK exchange rate is shocking so if you can persuade someone in the US to get you it to do it!)
Ha its always slightly amusing when stars get the flashback look from powder!! Thank you for the review, another product to try....

Coastal Scents has pure silica powder for just a few bucks for 1oz and more. NYX has one too - same ingredient for much less
ReplyDeleteElf do a high def powder which is around £6.00 I remember a lot of people saying it was a good budget dupe - I see they also do a corrective yellow colour now , google as I'm sure there are some comparison reviews about , might be worth a look.
ReplyDeleteVery tempting! But I use a more affordable powder from Rimmel, it's called Stay Matte!
ReplyDeleteI love this powder, too! It applies beautiful with the ELF Khabuki Brush (no need to fork over the cash for the Make Up Forever one). My biggest complain is that it is impossible to travel with. Just don't do it. Leave it upright on your vanity/in your Muji drawers.

ReplyDeleteGreat review! I got this small jar in a sephora favorites kit and I was debating using it or gifting it, now I will definitely try it!
ReplyDeleteAnd you should do an international swap to get some US products, I'm in the US and love UK products
Does anyone know how this compares to Mac Prep and Prime white powder?
