Ben Nye Banana Powder

If ever there was a powder to cause a royal stink in the beauty world it has been Ben Nye Banana Luxury Powder. Before Kim Kardashian revealed this yellow powder as one of her many beauty secrets I'm willing to be along with myself very few would have heard of Banana Powder let alone ever considered it to be a must have. Yes I'm a little late on jumping on the band wagon (sourcing this powder in the UK at a reasonable price is near impossible) but I can vouch that Ben Nye doesn't disappoint nor does Kimmy's beauty tricks for that matter.

Much like yesterday's post on Ben Nye's Neutral Set powder - review link my thoughts on the packaging are very much the same in that despite being a some what messy product by default I do rate the bottle come tub style of packaging and find that both the 85g and 42g sizes perfect for travel. Each jar so to speak comes complete with a screw lid that is tightly fastened so no spillages when on the go and once unscrewed you are presented with a powder sifter to help reduce dispersing excess product. The only difficulty I occurred with this style of packaging is that to use the powder you will have to find a shallow dish of some type (I use an empty powder pot funnily enough) to shake a little powder into and then apply to the face - time yes but very worth it in my opinion.

Now I bet you are wondering what all the fuss about this light yellow tinged powder is about and what is the purpose of a face powder being such odd hue. Basically it is a colour correcting product that can help re-balance redness to some degree but for most this will be a setting powder for under eye concealer or to set areas of the face that you have applied a highlight (in the sense of a liquid matte highlight to sculpt the face). You can of course use it to set other make-up - I personally find it great when applied over a BB Cream as it cancels out that greyish cast that can occur without changing the overall finish of the product.

Much like the Neutral Set powder this comes with no outright claims or suggests and is open to interpretation by the user. Personally I have found every Ben Nye powder to be light, finely milled and comfortable on the skin yet wonderful at reducing oil and keeping make-up in place all day. Despite being a yellow toned product once blended into the skin it becomes some what invisible and simply leaves behind a brightening effect again making it perfect for under eye use. As you will know and be sick of hearing by now I have rather oily skin and should I not opt for a waterproof mascara I will end up with black smears throughout the day sooner or later. I know a waterproof mascara could resolve this issue but truthfully my fine eyelashes don't really get on all that well with such formulation but since switching to using Ben Nye Banana Powder on the under eye area ( I press it on rather than buffer) black smudges are a thing of the past. Easily one of the best if not the best under eye setting powder I've used and I will admit that it is great at ridding swallow skin tones too!

I'm afraid it is a case of believe the hype with this one!

Random Fact  - Some cultures (most notably Japan) use the fiber in the banana plant to make fabric and sometimes even paper.
