Asian Make-Up Look with a Sari

Hi Sunday Girlers and boys!
I’m Tanzina and I write over at Makeup A to Z and today am hijacking Adrienne’s baby, her blog, with a makeup look post. This post is about a makeup look that I did a couple of months ago but never got round to showing, it was for a mehndi event which is typically an adornment event that comes before an Asian wedding. The bride usually gets her hands painted in mehndi (which is Henna for those confused!) The good thing that comes out of that is that I have an outfit to go with the makeup look I created.

The look I created is an orange based gold smokey eye look and red lips combo. The theme of the event was 1980ish sarees which was perfectly fine with me as it gave me an excuse to raid my Mum’s sari wardrobe! I’ll show you a few images before I talk you through the products I used! Please ignore any badly blurred faces as I had to blur some of my relatives’ faces as it isn’t fair to have their faces on the internet.

For my face makeup I omitted foundation but used quite a bit of concealer under my eyes and tad bit around my mouth. I used Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer in 08 which is pretty powerful as a concealer. I hate my under eye dark circles so anything that hides that is great in my books. For blush and contour I used my NARS duo in Sin (plum pink blush) and Casino (a matte brown bronzer). I do like a bit of highlight on the top of my cheeks and for that I used my Urban Decay eyeshadow in Virgin.

Now on to my favourite section of my face I like to paint, my eyes. For my brows I used Japonesque Brow kit which is just essentially shadow and wax. After priming my lid with UD (Urban Decay) Primer Potion, I applied UD Virgin (shimmery pink based white) in the inner corners to highlight, UD Half Baked (a gorgeous true gold) all over the lid and just on the cease of my eye lid. I then applied UD Penny Lane (an orange based gold) on the outer third as it complimented my sari well. I then used a mixture of MAC Carbon (matte black) and Brown Down (matte brown) to create a cut crease and also smoke up the look. Then I used MAC Brulee to blend and highlight under the brow bone. Quick swipe of liquid liner, mascara and false lashes and that is JUST the top lid done. On the lash line I used Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pencil in Oyster Glow (a light creamy glow) with UD Virgin on top in the inner corner and NYX Slide On Pencil in Glitzy Gold in the middle blended out towards the outer the corner. AND finally we are done with the eyes, it does sound like a lot of work but once you get into the habit of playing around with colour you just get used to it. Practice makes perfect and all that good stuff.

Lips were super simple. I’m an advocate of bright red lips, and since it complimented my sari well I had no reason not to resort to my favourite combination of MAC Brick liner and Ruby Woo lipstick. And that is the look completed!

I think heavy Asian makeup looks with matching outfits and jewellery are definitely my favourite look to create, and being Asian I have lots of reasons to create them – such as Eid coming up at the beginning of next month. Yay me! I would really appreciate it if you have a little wander at my blog Makeup A to Z and follow me on Bloglovin’. Thank you Adrienne for having me, The Sunday Girl is a blog I read on a daily basis so it’s a privilege to be on it. Sticking to Adrienne’s tradition and also our shared love of cats I shall leave you with a fact (Google tells me it’s true it better not be lying!)

Thank you so much Tanzina, what a lovely post and you look utterly beautiful in traditional garb!
P.S I'm totally stealing The Sunday Girlers ;)
