Continuing with today's theme of bronzing safely I thought it would only be apt that I shared a brilliant light base that not only offers a little coverage against minor imperfections but also shields against the harmful sun rays. I am of course waxing lyrical about Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 which I predict will cause many a rave review this coming summer.
At last a light tinted facial product that gives the skin a healthy glow without being greasy coupled with the skin care know how of Avene and an broad spectrum (UVA and UVB) SPF 50 your summer make-up bag is simply calling out for this small and completely travel friendly plastic compact. Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 contains all you need to primp and preen on the move including a handy mirror and a sponge applicator. Typically I prefer a brush for applying the majority of my face products but as this is a cream I find the sponge gives great coverage and allows the product to blend in with ease.
To the best of my knowledge Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 only comes in two shades: Beige which is the best match for light/fair complexions and Honey which is a slightly deeper hue and more suited to medium-medium dark complexions. I have Honey which does look a little orange and deep in tone when in pan form but once applied to the skin as this is a sheer product it pretty much a suit all medium shade. I liken Avene Honey a little to Bourjois BB Bronze Cream only with a little more coverage and of course a much higher SPF. You can of course opt out on applying this all over the face and use it in the same way you would a cream blush should you wish.
The directions on the back of Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 recommend that you apply at least 1g of product at the beginning of the day and touch the base up throughout the day. Call me crazy but in my opinion the whole point of a summer facial product is for it to remain light? The directions are of course so you get the ultimate SPF protection but to rid yourself of the sheer weight of 1g of product on your face I recommend applying your usual facial SPF and then this on top. Generally speaking I did find Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 to be light on the skin with a natural dewy finish. Although this product won't offer high coverage it will even out the skin tone and hide minor flaws all the while allowing the skin to breathe and offering protection against sun damage. To me the texture reminds me a lot of a cream foundation (most commonly found in compacts just like this one) only lighter and more comfortable to wear. To really optimize the wear time I do recommend blotting a little with a powder as at it's core Avene Sun Care Tinted Compact SPF50 is a sunscreen and said products do have a habit of leaving the skin a little shinier than usual!

I remember being recommended this product by an SA when I broke out terribly with a Revlon cream/compact and I thought it was quite decent, at least very skin friendly if nothing else... like you though I wouldn't exactly rely on this alone for sun protection but it's good to have something travel friendly to tote around. I do wish they'd come out with more colours though... the shade selection is very limited with this one.

lol 10g of product per compact... recommended use is 1g minimum per day. That means you should run out in 10 days, at £1.80 per day for base product. If we have a conservative estimate of 1.5g per day including touch ups, that's a week of use per compact.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I truly appreciate how responsible it is of them to actually state how much product is needed for the sun protection, it just goes to show how ridiculous it would be for us to rely on the SPF stated on makeup products for effective sun protection!
