By now most will probably have already seen the image of the first part (I believe there will be four collections in total) of Rihanna's collection for MAC?
Like most I'm a little disappointed the packaging well at least from the leaked image appears to be rose gold plastic and rather than looking swish/sophisticated it looks cheap and perhaps better at home in Poundland
rather than MAC.
That being said look a little closer and the shades of the cosmetic items do actually look appealing, a deep plum almost black lipstick, a deep red lip gloss and an eyeshadow palette full of neutral shades.
Yes at closer inspection it isn't too bad but as Rihanna prides herself on being edgy/controversial the packaging is on the safe side and bland...it almost looks toy like?

Truthfully I knew it would only be a matter of time before MAC and Rihanna collaborated, I initially thought it may have been for Viva Glam but they re-signed Nicki Minaj so I guess this collection is of little surprise.
I'm not sure why they have decided Rihanna needs four separate collections though?
Yes it will sell out as most MAC collections do but at this instant i'm not a fan and it will take a few special shades to tempt me to spend any cash on any of the mini collections I'm afraid!
A little extra information from WWD:
"The four collections, to be known as RiRi [Hearts] MAC, will break throughout 2013, and current plans call for 31 stockkeeping units. In another first, MAC is calling Rihanna, who turns 25 years old today, a “creative partner” rather than a collaborator. Her name will appear on the packaging, and her signature will be embossed on the RiRi Woo lipstick case and on the bullets of the summer lipsticks, as well as several of the fall and holiday pieces.
RiRi Woo will be sold at the Rihanna concerts and online, and a summer collection will follow, which will also be sold online. A third will land in brick-and-mortar stores for fall, and there will be an on-counter holiday collection.
The signature piece of the lineup, RiRi Woo, will be sold with all four collections. The summer collection also includes two additional lipsticks, a Lustre Drops shade and a powder blush duo. Fall’s 16 sku’s include four lipsticks, a deeply pigmented Lipglass version of RiRi Woo, two multishade eye shadow palettes and false lashes. (“She likes to wear two pairs at a time,” said Jennifer Balbier, MAC’s senior vice president of global product development, in an aside.) Holiday will bring another 10 items, including nail polish, a makeup bag and additional lipsticks."
I agree with you about the packaging! It's only because its Mac that I'm looking at it otherwise my eyes would probably graze over it! The colours of the makeup itself look lovely though, I like that shade of lipstick x

I love the look of the lipstick but I hate the packaging, looks like it'll dent and have the lid constantly falling off. Might have to skip the colour because of that.
ReplyDeleteI'm really feeling the eyeshadow colours but you're so right about the packaging!

I just wrote about this before noticing you also did.

Inspirations Have I None
In all honesty the packaging doesn't majorly offend me however I don't think the collection is exciting as it could be, especially at it's a Rihanna collab. Don't think I'll be buying into the hype of this one but I'm sure many will.

I think the packaging's quite pretty, but like you said very toy like and not something I would class as 'Rihanna'. I do like the look of the eyeshadow quad! xx

The packaging looks as cheap as she does. I'm not a fan :)
ReplyDeleteTo be honest I am a little bit sick of Rihanna being everywhere... River Island, MAC, tshirts everywhere. I do not like RI collection and I don't like this for MAC. Having said that, I am tempted by the lipstick shade. I don't like the package either.

I really like the eyeshadow color palette.. The package kind of reminds me of the 1980's for some reason.

I think everyone will agree with you about the packaging its not exactly attractive compared to past Mac collection.

ahhh!! I want it all!! I actually don't mind the packaging if I'm honest looking at the picture, however I daresay like a lot of the ltd edition MAC packaging, it'll be a bit tacky in person!! Can't wait till this is released!

I am so super stoked for this! I actually think the packaging is a kinda cute. :) I'm happy to hear RiRi Woo will be sold with all four collections...can't wait to try this! Thanks for the info :)

I agree, the packaging looks tacky/cheap. I have to admit I am not a Rihanna fan and she is like poo in a field at the moment(!) so will steer clear of this collection.
ReplyDeleteI love the new look of your site. I've just seen it. It looks fresh and very pretty :)
ReplyDeleteAnyways, I like Rihanna but I'm thinking "seriously?!" I don't like celebrity inspired makeup collections. The products never feel cohesive and are usually subpar quality. Plus, the fact that it has someone's name on it does not encourage me to make a purchase.
I agree dont like the look of the packaging would rather stick to their normal line for now.

Rihanna seems to be collaborating with everyone, boring! Mac don't need to collaborate with a celebrity, they just need to come up with an interesting and inspiring colection (their recent ones haven't really interested me) although that's a good thing for my bank balance! :) x
ReplyDeleteI would like the rose gold packaging if it didn't have that tacky pink writing all over it,the product shades do look appealing though :)

Ooh exciting, although i agree, not sure about the packaging!

Even MUA's packaging is better than this... and their lipsticks are £1!

Nothing really appeals - would maybe see if the e/s shades were any good but would not buy beased on Rihannas name or packaging - in fact the latter would turn me off. Also I think it may have a slightly marked up value. Maybe Im being blind, but what is Riri Woo - is it the dark lipstick? And would you know what finish it is?
ReplyDeleteIm def not buying any MAC brushes - theyve definitely gone downhill since they changed suppliers and if its anything like the holiday collection brushes - Id rather save my cash!
cannot stand her and that alone puts me off the collection but will still have a nosey and hope there may be one gem! x

I don't think i'll be picking up any of this.. Can't say i'm her biggest fan either! The packaging is terrible too.
