As soon as the first signs of Summer come along (which I know is a long way off at this point) I suddenly crave beachy waves that would make Giselle Bundchen proud but that is often easier said than done.
One product I have heard about year in and year out is Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray.
Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray is essentially a salt spray that is best applied to damp hair and can be used to create oodles of volume, texture and depending on your natural hair those very much craved beach tousled locks. Like I said this product is rather subjective and personally I think it works best if you already have a natural wave or curl to your hair, well as far as the beach wave element is concerned. The texture and volume claims are very true and will work on any hair type but I do think those with poker straight hair will struggle to get this to add the tousled effect, i'm afraid you will need heat for that.
To use I simply wash my hair and when it is around 70% dry that is when I begin to spray it throughout the ends of my hair to create a wave/tousled effect, I find scrunching the hair as I go helps to create a deeper wave. To add volume to my hair I follow the same steps only I use my finger tips to massage and tease volume into the roots of the hair but I do find that it can irritate my scalp a little (itchy) so I don't really use the product in such ways all that often. A little advice from Bumble and Bumble is that the less you touch your hair when using this product the longer the style will hold.
Truthfully I do find that the Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray feels quite heavy in the hair, you can certainly tell that the hair has some product in it when you touch the hair. Oddly my hair feels the same way it does should I have decided to take a tip in the deep blue sea, laden with salt and I guess that is the point.
With that in mind it does contain a high concentration of salt and that can dry the hair out with continuous use,I wouldn't break this out on a daily basis and after each use be sure to use a clarifying shampoo as it can leave hair a little knotted if left in too long.
If you are a fan of bed head and care free hair styles and want something that is quick and easy to use than I say give Bumble and Bumble's Surf Spray a go, it certainly is the best salt spray I have ever used.
Sadly I still don't look any closer to Giselle...a girl can hope and pray eh!

Thanks for the review~ i have always wanted to try out this surf spray because i have heard great reviews on them. I am currently loving the Toni&Guy one which is a cheaper alternative and does it's job very well. It doesn't weigh my hair down like this one does and washes out very easily without leaving my hair knotty. I wouldn't be purchasing this Bumble and Bumble one because of its price tag and doesn't sound suitable for my fine straight hair~

I heard amazing things about this and was chuffed when Ed got me a bottle for my birthday. I'm glad he did because a) I don't think I'd ever happily shell out for it and b) truthfully I'm not sure it was worth it. It just doesn't create long lasting texture for me, but then again my hair is poker straight so perhaps it's down to that. I am getting use out of this though, as I carry it around in my bag to jujj my hair up a bit. Only on the day it needs washing though, because it makes my hair so tangly!

I've always wanted to try this one. Glad to hear you liked it!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could afford B&B products but they're quite pricey. Great review!

I bought a mini bottle of this after lusting after it for ages and was really disappointed. My £5 Toni and Guy one gives a much better effect, without leaving hair crispy. The B&B one barely did anything to my hair aside from dry it out and it's already naturally a bit wavy :(
ReplyDeletewish this had worked for me but think it's definitely one for shorter hair! just made my long, thick hair a bit sticky :( x
