Can I just begin by saying that I really don't understand the hype surrounding this shade,
yes it is pretty but in my eyes it is just another mint green...nothing more nothing less!
So I do find it a little hard to fathom why this has became the recent I.T product?
Essie Mint Candy Apple is a milky mint green that is very much a pastel shade.
I recall when this shade was being touted as a great dupe for Chanel's Jade polish
which it is not...Chanel Jade is more mid toned and less pastel in tone.
Anyway Mint Candy Apple applies quite patchy and is more than a little streaky-
the bottle I have from the normal line so do let me know if the diffusion formula is any better
takes forever and a day to dry and when you need to apply three coats for opaque coverage
the drying time sure amounts up!
Basically the colour is very pretty but nothing special, off the top of my head I can think of two drug store
dupes - NYC Mint Macaroon and Collection 2000 Mint Mojito both of which cost less than £2!
Am I the only one that feels this way or am I completely insane?
I bought this via eBay for £7.02 inclusive of p&p - link, which is slightly less than the diffusion line
where this shade retails for £7.99.
Nail Polish Disclaimer - I will no longer be commenting on the wear of nail polishes
unless it chips instantly etc as I change my nail colour too frequently (sometimes daily),
to comment properly on the wear and as we all use different techniques such as top coats/base coats
I don't feel that my comments on wear time are helpful in any way.
Sort of reminds me of Barry M mint green, but not quite if you get what I mean?
ReplyDeleteAh this colour is on my nail varnish wish list it looks gorgeous! x

I only have the diffusion one, but my one is opaque in two coats & dries quickly xx
ReplyDeleteI don't think the colour is anything special and I'm not a fan of the Essie formulas either x x
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hype either!
ReplyDeletenah, not excited by this at all.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice colour but don't get the hype....there are other polishes available in this almost exact shade! Models Own Jade Stone is a nice one :)
ReplyDeleteBought this today from the diffusion - hope its better than your review! Should do a post on it soon x

Even though its application has some major issues, I quite like it. More because of its name, as when someone's asking what you have on and you tell them the name, you can't but feel happy! It might be just me though :p
ReplyDeletex
umm. why has it acquired cult status if it's a little bit a pain in ze butt to apply. essie is all right but you know, the brush is a bit thin. xx liloo/@tsunimee xx
ReplyDeleteEvery one seems to be loving this! I like it from the photos and swatches I've seen! xo
ReplyDeletelooks alright, but i already have two mints, revlon minted and e.l.f mint cream, there's no need for another! xx
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, even though at one point it was also a fave of mines...I hate the application! (I prefer revlon's minted-the formula is way better)
ReplyDeleteIt looks excactly like my Eyeko limited Edition Jade Polish! :O What's up with this mint green mania? It's starting to annoy.
ReplyDeleteI love all these essie reviews your doing...now that you can buy them from superdrug and boots, shell i buy some or not hmmmm.? Great post btw xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is the only essie I own and I love it :) x
ReplyDeleteDefintiely agree with you on this, I really dont get the hype! It's pretty much the same of the next mint green to be quite honest. I have Barry M Mint Green and it looks pretty similar for a fraction of the price x
ReplyDeleteAww thanks for the dupe suggestions ! xx

I totally buy into the hype I'm afraid. Yes, it's a total pain to apply but the shade just seems to work with anything I wear and every time I have it on somebody asks me where they can get it.
ReplyDeleteNah you're not insane. Every picture I've seen of this looks kind of like Dulux. You know - painty. Thanks for mentioning the dry time and streakiness before I accidentally caved in to the hype. x
ReplyDeleteI don't get the hype with this either?? I got an extremely similar shade recently from ELF for £1.50, Mint Cream, pretty much exactly the same and only £1.50 x
ReplyDeleteAlthought this is pretty I have to agree, it's not nearly individual enough for the hype!

I was going to buy this at the weekend but i found a far better mint green (the name has left me) by models own. At £5 it was £3 cheaper and with 2 bottles of models own you got a free nail art pen (they are amazing) so essie was left behind and after seeing these swatches i made a good decision :) x
ReplyDeleteI have the diffusion line bottle and the formula wasn't streaky and is opaque in one count x
ReplyDeleteI tried this shade on today but it didn't suit me as I am soooo pale at the moment, definitely one for wearing with a tan! Essie is on 3 for 2 on the Superdrug website at the mo, I'm about to push the button on an order for 4 of them!

It looks great, and i think it would look awesome with a tan! But i get what you mean, there's probably dupes out there that would make more sense if you're not gonna wear it loads
ReplyDeletexxx
there so many dupes!

Love this! reminds me of gosh missy mint!!
ReplyDeleteI actually find this shade to be a lot more blue toned than some of the other mint polishes out there, which I think is very pretty. Also, I always get great coverage with two coats of this and with a quick dry top coat my nails are good to go in no time. I would agree that there are a lot of mint polishes out there, but I've never found one that was truly a dupe for this shade. In fact, the closest color I've found tone-wise is For Audrey by China Glaze (although it is much darker), which is inspired by Tiffany blue.
ReplyDeleteThis looks good...! :)
