Like 99.9% of the population (slight exaggeration of course), I adore Jo Malone packaging: its sleek, modern yet classic at the same time and the very epitome of luxury. The Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care is no different, it is decked out in cream and black finery, looking every part the Jo Malone launch. If I'm being hypercritical, I would say that as sturdy as the plastic pot happens to be (great for travel and every day use), I would have preferred an option that allowed me to apply the balm directly to my lips. It's not that I'm grossed out about using my fingers to apply products (I'm clean and I know where my hands have been), it more an issue of practicality; on the go, I'll have to route around my bag for a tissue to remove the excess balm from my hands, and that may result in me leaving this particular launch on my bedside table for when I have more time on my hands.
Before we discuss the fragrance - which is heavenly - let me divulge a little about the actual formulation of this lip care product. As you may have noticed, Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care is not billed as a lip balm as it goes a step further than simply moisturising the skin. The Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care contains an extravagant blend of moringa butter, rose flower wax and kukui seed oil to banish dryness, deeply condition and protect the lips in one quick step.
The texture of Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care is thick and a little on the firmer side but not overly so; once applied to the lips it is quickly absorbed making it a great everyday base for other lip products.
Now there's one thing Jo Malone do better than most and that is that they understand the science of a great fragrance - who doesn't go weak at the knees just walking past a Jo Malone store, let alone being the proud owner of a bottle of cologne or two. Admittedly I was a tad pensive about a fragrance combination of mint and ginger but it works. I mean of course it works, this isn't Jo Malone's first rodeo, they are experts at blending fragrance notes and this slightly zesty, veering spicy yet fresh concoction is unlike anything I've ever tried before.
Perhaps an odd but hopefully helpful observation - yes Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care is scented and obviously so (as you'd expect) but once it is on the lips it mellows out and isn't over powering - nor can you taste it when you eat etc which I know can be a deciding factor on whether or not some of us purchase an item of this nature.
I really hope the launch of Jo Malone English Mint & Ginger Lip Care is a sign of things to come, I can of course only speak for myself but I would love to see the brand delve into more cosmetic based items - wouldn't that be the dream?
