Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion Review

One thing the world of Korean and Asian beauty products has opened the door to is the use and flurry of "essence" launches - and of course sheet masks, gosh we love a good sheet mask these days - within the western world, and I for one welcome it with open arms. I truly believe that in the not so dim and distant future, using an essence will be a staple step within even the most basic of skincare routines, and with brands such as Origins offering quality nourishing lotions such as Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion, embracing such step, and product for that matter has never been easier.

If you are new to the world of skin essence, let me briefly explain what to expect and of course how to best use your new skincare hero: first of all, an essence is aimed to be utilised after you have fully cleansed (this includes toning, should you do such step) and before moisturising. I tend to dispense a few drops into the palms of my hands, then gently pat onto my face and neck. Typically most essences are deployed in the evening but there is no real reason to use it in the AM should you wish to - Origins actively encourage it with this product. Generally - and I do say generally as ingredients and purpose do vary per product - an essence adds a gentle and light layer of additional moisture as well as refining the skin texture (minimising pores, softening - that sort of thing). In the case of Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion this is all true, but it also aims to add a gentle glow to the skin and has been formulated to suit all skin types, which is pretty special in my opinion.

So now we've cleared up what a typical essence does, how exactly does Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion stand up against the original Korean versions? Rather surprisingly, I would go as far as saying it is as good, if not better than some of the well known essences I have tried in the past. Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion has a slightly thicker than average texture, it veers almost on a gel like consistency and as such is super cooling, quick to absorb and weightless on the skin. It instantly hydrates, without overwhelming and provides the perfect base for applying a night or day cream on top off - a step I fully endorse if you have found your go-to moisturisers are no longer quenching your skin quite as deeply as they once did.

What I will say is that it does take around a week or two before you will notice any additional radiance boosting qualities to the skin, then again very few skin products work instantly. As someone with rather enlarged pores, I have yet to see the refining effects but at this point I do think I am past the point of help; as such perhaps those with less problematic skin will reap the benefits more than I ever will. For those who like skin products to weave their magic quickly, you can expect a softened and cared for complexion from the first use.

If you have yet to experience skin essence for yourself, you could do a lot worse than adding a bottle of Origins Original Skin Essence Lotion to your routine.
