Let's forget if your stash is bulging with red, nude or shocking pink lipsticks, it is not shade here that matters, rather I want to know all about the lipstick formulation and textures that blew you away. That one lipstick (again shade aside) that you slicked on and thought "my goodness, this is it".
Now this doesn't have to be the lipstick you wear everyday, perhaps it was a pricey splurge that knocked your socks off, or maybe the lipstick in question is in a bold shade that isn't quite work appropriate - all I care about is the out of this world formulation. For a moment (or should that be post), I'm going to ask that you forget all about liquid lipsticks. As great as they may be, they are not quite in the same league as a traditional tube of lipstick, and there is also the fact that they are nearly always drying and matte.
For me, two stand out formulations spring to mind - one high end and one budget friendly buy. When everyone anyone asks me what is the one lipstick formula I would recommend above all others, there is often a look of surprise when the words Estee Lauder tumble out of my mouth rather than MAC. Now don't get me wrong MAC lipsticks are great but truly they don't come close to the soft, creamy and beautifully pigmented shades that belong to Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipsticks. They truly are superior to all else I have tried: they glide onto the lips with such ease, deliver an even slick of colour with one quick swipe, are moisturising, long-wearing and come in a vast range of shades (over 24). If you have yet to try this range out you are in for a treat.
My favourite budget lipstick find has to be the L'Oreal Color Riche lipstick line; again a vast range of shades are available, all of which are well pigmented, nourishing and comfortable to wear. Admittedly they are not as luxurious in texture as the Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Lipstick line but nowhere near as drying as other budget lipstick ranges. If I find myself in the likes of Boots and Superdrug on the lookout for a new lipstick, more often than not this is the stand I find myself perusing.
So over to you, what is the best lipstick formula ever. And I mean ever!
So far, the most comfortable and nourishing formula I've worn is the reformulated Chanel Rouge Coco lipstick. However, I really love the Urban Decay lipstick formulation, as well, though it gets a bit drying for me by the end of the day. Only a bit.
ReplyDeleteI have to go with MAC, mainly because I can't stay away from Matte, and their formula is just beyond anything else, although you now have me interested in the Estée Lauder ones....

I love matte lipsticks!
ReplyDeleteI do love MAC lipsticks especially the matte ones. I also adore YSL lipsticks they are just so creamy!

I am a MAC hoarder. BUT. Charlotte Tilbury's Matte revolution cannot be beaten for matte vs comfort, and Glastonberry just does not transfer! For creamy nudes I love illamasqua Glamore lipsticks... But the ultimate (and I'm sorry, it's an American Sephora import job for us Scottish beauty obsessives) is Bite Beauty's new formula. Can't fault it!
ReplyDeleteClinique Different lipstick. Lasts forever and not drying. Angel Red is my favorite.
ReplyDeletereally? L'oreal? they smell way too sweet for me :\

At the moment the only high end I have is Mac and I love them but I tried the loreal and it is great one as well so I'd have to agree.

I'm loving matte lipsticks from MAC (Velvet Teddy is my favourite at the moment)

As far as high-end formulations go, I'd definitely vote for NARS Audacious Lipstick because the colour payoff is outstanding and the formula is hella moisturizing and creamy. The L'Oreal Color Riche lipsticks are nice too, but the scent bothers me.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a hard one! I do really like Mac but I've never tried the Estee Lauder ones, I've have to seek them out. Maybelline is good for drugstore x

Nars is my fave!! Lasts forever and the colors are amazing.

I have a No 7 Stay Perfect lipstick, Brick Red, and it is hands down amazing! Not at all drying and has a lovely matte finish and is super opaque. For a budget friendly lipstick under £10 I would buy that formula again and again!
ReplyDeleteI really like mac but I like the sound of the estee lauder ones, they sound more comfortable x

Dior Addict - it just feels so buttery and divine on the lips, not drying - it's my staple when I'm having a "bad lip" day, I know I can swipe it on and it's not going to highlight slightly chapped areas. Only downfall is it needs to be reapplied frequently!
ReplyDeleteThe Clinique pop lipsticks are so comfortable to wear with good staying power. My lips are very dry and these really keep things looking good.
ReplyDeleteI really want to try the EL envy ones as I've only seen good reviews.
I love MAC matte ones, and Chanel always impresses; in terms of drugstore, the Barry M matte lipsticks in bold or mid shades (not too nude or dark) have a good formula

For budget, Kiko and H&M, they are surprisingly creamy, pigmented and long-lasting. For high end, NARS Audacious lipsticks.
ReplyDeleteI second the Estee Lauder (I recommended Desirable as a nude, although pinky), I see why the hype with MAC but when you get down to it... Estee takes the win!
