Diptyque Oliban Holiday Candle 2015

Each year, for the last three December's I have treated myself to a few of the festive Diptyque candles and this year is no different. Yes Diptyque candles do not come cheap but there is something about the usual fragrances, and of course beautiful, glass containers that lure me in time and time again. Admittedly Diptyque Oliban Candle is not the most obvious festive choice and that is why I adore it so, when I spend close to £50 (yes really!) on a candle, I want to be able to burn it all year round and enjoy it. If you favour spicy, oriental floral fragrances and have yet finish your Christmas shopping maybe avoid your local Space.NK and Diptyque candle stand for the time being...

Diptyque have a distinctive packaging style: glass containers with white labels that many choose to re-purpose as a make up brush holder. The festive launches of course differ in design, this year Diptyque have decided to use opaque black glass with bright and bold splashes of colour. Diptyque Oliban features a blue and gold colour scheme which somewhat hints at the Winter come festive season without being garish. I know this is an odd thing to say but I'm as excited to burn this candle as I am to re-use the empty container - sad I know!

Now comes the tricky part, describing Diptyque Oliban; a scent that has been launched in the past but never quite barged its way into the permanent line up. Much like the vast majority of Diptyque candles this offers a strong, distinctive fragrance that you'll be hard push to emulate. Diptyque Oliban features strong and somewhat spicy notes of Frankincense; a note that of course does have festive connotations but one that has been side stepped in recent times for hints of pine and cinnamon. If a luxurious, warming fragrance that offers a spicy trail that never overwhelms, nor screams CHRISTMAS *Noddy Holder voice*, then this is the candle you need to treat yourself to.
