I pop into Topshop fairly frequently, normally to pick up something that I couldn't source online - the struggle is real. Yes I know Topshop make up exists, heck I rate a good few items within the now vast collection but it is seldom that I purchase anything in store. I seem to go into Topshop and become overwhelmed by the clothing, shoes and jewellery. As odd and nonsensical as this may seem, I believe that I would purchase more from Topshop beauty, if it was to be stocked within Boots or Superdrug? Well as luck would have it, I was in store last week and purchased both shades of the Topshop Highlight Powders. Easily the best decision I have made in a long while.
Much like the brand, Topshop Beauty packaging is fun and a little quirky. Most items comes presented within robust white, plastic casing that features either stripes or star motifs. The downside is that the white plastic, as cutesy as it may be, does stain easily and is a nightmare to clean. I do find it odd that the Topshop Highlighting powders, come within compacts that do not feature a mirror and yet the Topshop Cream Blushes do? A mirror would make on the go application so much easier and convenient on the whole but that's just my opinion of course.
To the best of my knowledge and after a quick Google search, there seems to be two shades of the Topshop Highlighters: Horizon and Sunbeam. Topshop Horizon Highlighter is a mid toned, warm golden bronze that compliments tanned and deeper complexions. On lighter skin tones this may translate to a shimmer based bronzer or double up as an eyeshadow. The overall shade of Horizon reminds me a lot of The Balm Betty Lou The Bronzing Bandit - only a smidgen deeper in tone. Topshop Sunbeam Highlighter is far more universally flattering, a bright and neutral, strongly yellow based golden hue. Admittedly this may seem like a scary shade within the pan but once applied to the face, it not only brightens and to an extent neutralises any traces of red on the cheeks too.
Topshop Powder Highlighters are not for those who prefer a barely there, hint of shimmer - the pigment and finish is rather intense and ideal for the current strobing trend. If you are a fan of The Balm highlighter powders, I can almost guarantee you will enjoy the Topshop Highlighters. Rather than being outright shimmer or glitter based, the Topshop Highlighters are metallic in finish - they are best applied with a large fluffy brush, to prevent an overly obvious stripe of colour. They do however blend out with ease, are not prone to settling into enlarged pores or fine lines and wear exceptionally well - up to 10 hours. The firm powder, somewhat melts onto the skin and feels far more luxury than the £10 price tag may suggest; the ideal option to perk up even the dullest of complexions.
Easily one of the best, intense highlighting powders I have used - high street or otherwise.
You can find both shades via Topshop for £10 each - link.
This look good. I have never tried Topshop make up before and thank you for your review!
ReplyDeleteEvery time I go into Topshop I look at Sunbeam and consider buying it. I love Mary Lou Manizer so perhaps this is the post I needed to finally convince me to pick it up!

I'll have to look into these! I had a Topshop blush years ago and it was my absolute favorite, but as the nearest Topshop is an hour away and I'm not a huge fan of online makeup shopping (I swatch EVERYTHING), I haven't had a chance to try anything else. Topshop's beauty range is SO underrated!
ReplyDeleteThis review is so well done. I never comment but i love your blog so much and yes the sunbeam highlighter is a bit scary at first but i also looks very promising and i trust your reviews so much i'll definitely pick it up soon.

I have had sunbeam for ages and find it really good value, its so easy to use! I agree though, they are not for anyone wanting the natural look, but they are way more convenient.

The swatches look great! Might have to order these online as I've acquired a recent obsession with highlighters but then again, who hasn't?
ReplyDeleteI seen these today and was really tempted, they look so beautiful. I'm drawn to the yellow one, but with my MUA one which is very simmilar at £3 I couldn't justify!
