Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows Review

Max Factor is a brand that has recently won me over with all their new and rather innovative products. My most recent find is their mousse come gel hybrid eyeshadow formula - Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows: cooling, comfortable and more importantly quick and easy to apply. I have yet to find anything more suited to balmy weather conditions, nor a product more ideal for a quick wash of colour when time is of the essence.

The Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows come presented in small, screw top glass jars which do have the appearance of a more expensive and dare I say it high end product. Despite the main body of the packaging being constructed from glass (reinforced glass, may I add), they are sturdy and travel well. In the past I have struggled with cream eyeshadow packaging, on occasion the opening of the jar is not wide enough for use with fingers or a large fully brush. Luckily this is not the case with the Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows, as a matter of a fact they house even the chubbiest of fingers (yep that would be me) and largest of brushes with ease.

Shown above in order: 05 Crystal, 10 Pearl, 15 Pink Opal, 20 Copper, 25 Bronze and 30 Onyx .

The Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows come in six, universally and somewhat neutral shades:
- 05 Crystal - a soft, shimmering pink come nude tinged ivory.
- 10 Pearl - oddly a green tinged white, that reflects yellow in certain lights.
- 15 Pink Opal - a light, blue toned lavender come pink hue.
- 20 Copper - a yellow, mid toned, golden brown.
- 25 Bronze - a beautiful, rich and again golden tinged brown shade.
- 30 Onyx - black, black with an abundance of silver shimmer particles.

As beautiful as the shades may be, it is the formula that has won me over. Describing Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows is no easy task: whipped, lightweight, soft, creamy yet not cream, gel based yet not solid - it is one you really need to try for yourself to fully understand. I believe they draw some lines of comparrison to Tom Ford's Cream Colour fo Eyes (Bronze is a dupe for the Tom Ford shade Spice, or so I've been told). Despite the thin and cooling texture the Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows are beyond pigmented, so much so that it is best to approach with a less is more mind set. The beauty of the formula is that you can sheer the shadows out for a quick wash of colour, or apply in layers for a more intense, metallic finish. The choice is yours. If that is not enough being a cream formula you can apply as an eye liner or in the case of the lighter shades as facial highlighters. As an added bonus the Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows can be used in place of a primer or an eyeshadow base product.

Despite being shimmery come metallic in finish, the Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows are ridiculously flattering; they do not have the tendency to crease, crumble nor fade. As they are more illuminating than glitter based they suit all ages (that's not to say over a certain age you can't wear glitter, because you can) and offer a soft focus, splash of colour - all without gathering and looking crêpey. It's not often that I get to say an eyeshadow is moisturising, easy to apply and long wearing (around 7 hours per application), all without a primer but Max Factor Excess Shimmer Eyeshadows is exactly that!

Your make up bag needs at least one shade and at £7.99 each they won't break the bank.
