If you follow me on Instagram (shameless plug @TheSundayGirlUK), then you may have noticed I am slowly but surely de-cluttering my make-up stash. To make more room for new and exciting products? Most likely - I guess you know me too well ha! Anyway while clearing out I noticed I have accumulated a few products that I spent more money than I should have on and have yet to use for some reason or other.
For instance we have MAC Brooke Shields Palette (limited edition), an assortment of neutral toned eyeshadows that will take me from night to day that I spent an arm and leg on last October and have yet to as much as swatch. Why? It is too pretty to use, which makes no sense - if I don't use it like all other make-up products it will spoil. Surely if it is too pretty to use it is too pretty to waste? Under the exact same pretence we have the Clarins The Essentials Eyeshadow Palette which was launched just before Christmas last year. Unlike the MAC palette I don't even have the pretence that it is super limited edition and can not be repurchased as it is still up for grabs on both the Debenhams and John Lewis sites. Utterly ridiculous on my part. Speaking of being absurd I also have an untouched MAC The Simpsons palette - an array of bright blue and purple tones that I will less than likely ever reach for.
The good news is that I have an extremely pushy younger sister who believes in waste not, want not and will take any product away from me in which I am hoarding purely to admire. We all need a kick up the behind, time to time. I promise as of today I will make use of at least one of the neutral palettes above and re-home the others. On the plus side I don't tend to hoard products purely based on packaging...it's not much of an upside but it is a start.
Now over to you, tell me I am not alone - I know some of you must have products squirrelled away in which you have yet to pluck up the courage to use?
pfffft you are not the worst offender!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I too have products that are brand new. In my case it is because I am waiting to photograph them before I reach for them (mostly). I have been decluttering as well and I gave away to my friends some products that I hardly used or that were brand new! Needless to say, they were happy to take them from my hands! ;)
Have another blog sale !!!
ReplyDeleteOh god I have so many...I've bought loads of hair masks to see if there are any that can improve on my current routine but I'm just too scared to risk them not being nourishing enough! Along with gel and felt tip eyeliner pens and about five red lip crayons... I'm such a wimp when it comes to anything other than foundation, blusher and mascara!
ReplyDeleteI used to hoard so much make up because it had pretty packaging or was 'too nice to use' but I decided to be ruthless and get rid of anything I didn't use. I cut my collection by about two thirds and don't regret it one bit! No I can make the most of the stuff I do have :)
ReplyDeleteThe Clarins palette is gorgeous, I would definitely use it!

You need to use that MAC palette - it is actually amazing. I use the pale pink all over lid over the Mayeblline rose gold colour tattoo, with some of the purple in the crease and it's aaamazing xx
ReplyDeleteI have to force myself to use my new things, I love experimenting with colours so it doesn't take much persuading, those palettes look gorgeous though! xx

Oh god, I do this! I just bought one of the new Dior Tie Die blushers with the sole purpose of owning it but not using it as it's so pretty! Send your sister to have a word with me, ha ha x
ReplyDeleteI do the exact same thing! Sometime's I'll even buy a lipstick in the same colour I already own just so I can have it unused!

I know exactly how you feel! I have so many palettes I have yet to actually pick up and try. It's normally because I have one go-to and even that one lasts me forever! Good luck with trying all the news ones :)

Your post was so easy to relate to! Haven't really used Charlotte tilburys bronze and glow yet, it's just too pretty x Bean's Beauty Blog
ReplyDeleteThe MAC Disney Villain products. I think I have about 5 items from the range hidden away in a box. The things we do :p
ReplyDeleteGillian xx EyelinerFlicks
I'm exactly the same, I hate making that first imprint on makeup and spoiling the newness. I love all of these though!

I'm still afraid to use my Marge Simpson blush because it's so cute.

I actuaally love this palette (it's so gorgeous) and I still try not to make any prints on my NAKED 3 palette!

They may be pretty to look at, but they'll be even prettier to wear! Get using them xo

That's so good you are passing them on! I really don't see the point of collecting makeup for the sake of collecting, I want to use and love it!

I wrote a long massive comment but it disappeared so sorry if it comes twice. I used to be like this and had all my Charlotte Tilbury stashed away but then I watched a YouTube video 'in the bathroom with Sali Hughes' and she says 'saving things for best is a really bad way to approach life because we are alive now, we deserve to live well now so if you have lovely things then use them' it just really struck a chord with me and I lit my Jo Malone candle and opened all the CT makeup and I FELT AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteFailing that, have a blog sale 😄
I have 2 YSL Touche Eclait unopened because they are in limited edition packaging and I don't want to finish them haha!
ReplyDeleteI would love to get my hands on the MAC palette in a blog sale :)
ReplyDeleteI do a weekly Shop My Stash Post, I have to try three new untouched products that I have been hoarding for some reason. The main reason is, it is too pretty to use, followed closely by it is limited edition and if I love it I wont be able to repurchase... Sigh. I try the hoarded products, and whatever I don't like goes straight to my blogsale. In this way it forces me to try new products every week, and stop hoarding and pass them on if I am not a fan...
ReplyDeletethe brooke shields palette is gorgeous, I really hope you use that one first! Also wanted to tell you that you're one of my favourite beauty bloggers to follow on instagram <3 x

I do have a few products that I haven't used yet but in my case I think it's more because I don't think I'm going to like the shade or the product so I'm scared to try it because I'll be disappointed by it. I think I would have more 'too pretty to use' products if I had a little more spare cash at the moment, but as I'm pretty broke I'm quite careful about what I buy (obviously apart from the products mentioned at the beginning of this comment!) x

I totally used to be like that, until I discovered that using it actually even more fun! I just make sure that I use it hygienically (for example if it's a cream product, I use a spatula and never touch it with my fingers) and I sanitise my makeup properly so it stays germ free and useable for a long long time. This way you can have your cake and eat it too! :D
