I am a huge fan of Bio-Oil, which many will know is a dry oil which essentially means it applies like a slightly greasy liquid but as soon as you begin to massage in into the sky it quickly absorbs without any trace of residue which is simply brilliant for all those like myself who aren't the biggest fans of oil products. According to the Bio-Oil site Bio-Oil can be best described as - "a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which changes the formulation’s overall consistency, making it light and non-greasy". Annoyingly it can be pretty expensive and just through chance I stumbled upon the large 200ml size for the price of the tiny 60ml via Amazon - link. As it is sold directly from Bio-Oil you know it is all above board and will not be old stock. If you go through as much Bio-Oil as I do, I am sure this will save you a small fortune.
As a child I can recall my mother relying on Bio-Oil to help keep stretch marks at bay while pregnant (I'm one of seven children and my mum has minimal stretch marks and she did have a set of twins) and to fade existing stretch marks. As a teenager I used it on my hips and breasts to prevent stretch marks and somewhat became accustom to having the light peach tinted oil in my routine. Stretch marks aside I tend to add a few drops to my body lotion/body cream as it makes application easier, increases the overall moisture levels of said body product and makes the oil go further. You can also mix a little into your night or day cream to make your facial moisturiser work that little harder. If you aren't adverse to facial oil and have exceptionally dry skin you may want to use this as a stand alone facial moisturiser?
A few years ago I read more into Bio-Oil and learnt that it is great at fading scars which I have several of thanks to acne. As a test I began applying Bio-Oil to my shoulders and back where red, angry looking scars resided thanks to said acne. I was pretty vigilant applying daily and within three months said scarring was all but gone. I guess I was pretty lucky as the scars were fairly. fresh. Urged on by the success I began dabbing the Bio-Oil on some older scarring on my face, rather than slathering all over my face I dabbed on directly to the offending area using a cotton bud. I will be honest in saying that it is yet to be as successful as the scarring on my back in terms of fading but there is definitely a major improvement. It is only fair that I mention my acne scarring on my face is much older so perhaps a time span of six months is more par for course. Regardless I am a huge fan and use it daily pretty much all over so the discounted huge bottle find has really come in handy.
You can find the Bio-Oil 200ml size for £12.95 (free p&p) via Amazon - link.

I think that Boots already sell it online and at the stores right?
ReplyDeleteYep just a little more pricey.
DeleteReally? Damn... Here is like 12pounds for the small flask. A steal! We have no big sizes.

Everybody says it is a good product, and can be used for so many things as well! I've got a sort of "dupe" for this oil but I'm not sure it would work as well, I may have to buy this one too!

I've got lots of acne scars on my cheeks but I'm slightly nervous using bio oil directly onto my face when I've got oily skin as it is, might have to get a little bottle and try it out

I've made this mistake myself, but if you click on bio-oil at the top, it will show all bio oil stockist on Amazon. Or did you find another way to verify its directly from bio-oil?
ReplyDeleteI love Bio Oil, I've used it for years - adding a few drops to your bath is great :)

Bio Oil is a South African product, and is amazing! I am from South Africa, and I know us beauty bloggers and all women have this as a core product. The Bio Oil company have recently released a new range called Lipidol, which is also an oil range, and is amazing! There is a cleasing face oil, cleansing body oil, after shower oil, overnight face oil, shaving oil and a sunscreen oil. Definitely worth a look! The cleansing face oil is my favourite!
ReplyDeleteHmm I'm intrigued about the overnight face oil... is it any good? Not sure we have this range in the UK though. x

Bio oil is indeed amazing for stretch marks and scars. I wonder if it's any good applied all over the face? Have you ever heard of anyone using it as a way of keeping the skin looking good? Face oils are super hot right now... made me wonder... :)

i tried to use it to prevent stretch marks, didn't really work, after that I tried to fade the marks with bio oil, didn't work either despite diligent use. I guess it didn't like me
ReplyDeleteI burned myself with a curling iron recently, and based on your last post about your success with acne scarring on your back, I decided to use this to help reduce scarring from my burn. Depends on how that goes, I plan to use it for some acne scarring on my face. Thanks for such great reviews!

I love Bio-oil but I couldn't afford it for a while and bought the Superdrug own brand- it works the same, I swear! Buh-bye scarring!

I love using it as overnight face oil and I use it without anything else because it would be too greasy. So far it has successfully made my face feels supple in the morning
