Weekly Favourites #67

It has been a strange old week for me, firstly I was ill which resulted in a horrendous rash and dry skin - lovely. On the plus side I am on the road to recovery and on Monday night I won the Johnson and Johnson Best Established Beauty Blog award which was a lovely pick me up. I warn you now my current favourites aren't overly exciting but they have been covering a multitude of sins...

I have spoken about my current adult acne woes here so I won't bog you down with any more self pitting. What I will say is that my current medication is drying out my skin, leaving my complexion tight, flaky and generally uncomfortable. My current saviour is Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil it gently hydrates, rebalances the skin and is a natural anti-bacterial agent so it can help with existing blemishes. No it is not an acne cure but it will not aggravate the skin which I am really grateful for.

My dried out skin has resulted in several foundations sitting on top off my skin rather than looking seamless, the coverage looks heavy and in some cases flaky which is far from ideal. My go to combination is Topshop The Airbrush Primer which gently hydrates my skin as well as creating a natural, flawless, airbrushed finish - foundation glides on to the skin with ease when this is in play, not to mention it helps to extend the wear time of any products applied on top. Love in a swish white and chrome tube!

Yes my skin may be blemish prone but the last thing I want is a cakey, heavy finish - I want high coverage that looks as natural as possible. For this I swear by Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation a super lightweight texture, the disguises pretty much all skin problems (other than texture) and wears exceptionally well. This is one of the few foundations that adjusts to my skin's current needs - absorbing excess oil where needed yet not clinging to dry areas. Yes it is pretty pricey but it is one of the few foundations I will repurchase over and over again.

I did state that my choices were somewhat bland and predictable this week and this is no more obvious with my eye make-up selections. Daily it has been a quite wash of MAC Paint Pot in Painterly with a little Urban Decay Stark and Frisk blended into the socket line for a little definition. I have come to the decision that the Urban Decay Naked 2 Basics Palette is my favourite Naked palette of all time. You will sleep soundly tonight safe in this knowledge I trust.

Nuxe Reve de Miel Lip Balm may be a new addition to my collection of lip balms but it has quickly wormed its way into my affections. The texture is a little bizarre; almost like putty but it smells utter delicious (like lemon curd) and instantly nourishes, soothes and moisturises the lips. The best £9 I have spent on a lip balm. Give into the hype, you will not regret it.

Out of sheer laziness when I have not been trailing any new lip products my go to lipstick has been Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Naked, a pretty, creamy pink tinged nude that gives the illusion of plumper lips. It is such an easy shade to wear coupled with a really moisturising formula. I am a huge fan.

With Spring on the horizon I have been reaching for lighter fragrances, my current favourite and new staple scent is Dolce Floral Drops by Dolce & Gabbana Eau de Toilette. This is a truly beautiful light, fresh and green floral fragrance that encapsulates the new season. Yes this is a soft scent but it lingers on the skin all day long. You simply have to try this for yourself.
