Get the Look Jennifer Lawrence in Serena

Like most I am currently trawling the web for updates on last nights academy awards, I live for the award show dresses and make-up looks. One of my all time Oscar winning looks has to be Jennifer Lawrence's 2013 look, not to say she didn't look equally as beautiful in 2014 nor at any other event but the softness of her make-up really appealed to me. Today see's the launch of Serena in which Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper are featured side by side once again.

"In Depression-era North Carolina, the barren wife (Jennifer Lawrence) of an ambitious timber baron (Bradley Cooper) sets out to murder the woman who bore her husband an illegitimate son."

The Serena film story line may not ooze glitz and glamour but Jennifer's 1920's style make-up is surprisingly easy to re-create at home and is one of those few looks in which can take you from office to a night on the tiles with ease. If you are a fan of simple yet defined make-up this is the look for you. Heck you might even want to go all out and attempt pin curls too?

As you can most likely see Jennifer's character within Serena doesn't appear to have a whole lot of make-up which would be true for the era the film is set within. I often wonder what I would have done if I was born in a past era in regards to my acne scarring. I digress, for a base I recommend reaching for something light yet long long lasting. You want just enough coverage to even out the skin tone but it should appear youthful and very much your own skin. Forget heavy powders and thick foundations and go for something like Lancome Miracle Cushion Foundation or Bourjois Healthy Glow Foundation. combined with a good primer. I personally recommend Max Factor Face Finity Primer. Apply lightly all over and only conceal where you really need to i.e blemishes rather than highlighting. For under eye circles and blemishes I personally don't think you can really beat Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer.

In the above images you can see that in some scenes within Serena Jennifer has quite a strong smoky eye with very little definition - i.e it is just a deep eyeshadow blended all over the lid. It looks to me like it is matte black eyeshadow which I do find a little too harsh for everyday wear, for a more subtle approach a deep brown or brown eyeshadow would work equally as well. The new Gosh Eyelight Trio's are great for this or any look for that matter. I am rather enjoying the Gosh Eyelight Trio in Chunky Chocolate which contains a deep brown. Skip eye liner completely and load your top lashes with your favourite mascara. Leave the bottom lashes bare. A quick slick of a brow pencil through the brows and you are go to go.

For the cheeks as you can see in the promotional images Jennifer's skin appears to be bare, that won't be to everyone's personal taste. To keep the look fresh, glowing and dare I say youthful I would suggest a cream blush. My current favourite has to be Kevin Aucoin The Creamy Glow Duo in Pravella/Janelle. Two easy to wear shades that will give a light pop of colour that is both entirely flattering and natural.

Throughout the film Serena Jennifer's character has two lip looks - one natural and I am assuming bare and the other a bright matte red. For the purpose of longevity I would suggest using a lip liner as you can define and fill the lips. My personal favourite would have to be MAC Cherry Lip Liner as it is bright, easy to wear and fairly suit all. If a bare lip isn't really your calling perhaps aim for a shade very close to your natural lip colour or a lightly tinted lip balm?

Serena featuring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper is now available for purchase in DVD/Blu-Ray format via Amazon (£11.75) and all good retailers nationwide. Why not purchase the movie for yourself, call over a few friends have fun re-creating the make-up looks and enjoy a good film while at it?
