One of my main skin concerns is my large, painfully obvious pores. Apparently those with oily skin are prone to such problem and there really is very little you can do. Obviously keeping enlarged pores clear helps to minimise the problem but eradicating them completely is all but impossible. Luckily there are primers out there that help to "fill in" and optically blur enlarged pores, the newest primer on the block that gets my seal of approval is Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in Pore Minimizing.
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in Pore Minimizing is a light, peach toned and somewhat thick balm like primer. In terms of appearance it does remind me of Benefit's The Porefessional but this has a thicker texture and works so much better. Unlike some primers aimed at concealing visible pores in targeted areas this can be used all over the face should you wish. Yes the the texture is thicker than your typical primer but once worked into the skin it becomes weightless and is completely comfortable to wear.
I know it may seem like I am harping on about the consistency of this product but it really is what sets it apart from other primers - once applied to the skin it quickly transforms from a heavy cream to the a beyond lightweight powder. The skin is silky soft to the touch, pores have a softer appearance as they are somewhat filled as are fine lines and the skin has a gentle matte finish, which allows foundation be it cream, liquid or powder to glide on top. Generally speaking it creates an airbrushed effect that does not clog the pores. It may not surprise you to find out that Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer in Pore Minimizing is oil free and has been created to control excess oil for up to 8 hours and also to prolong make-up wear in general. As mentioned above I have super oily skin so keeping make-up looking fresh on my face is easier said than done and yet after 8 hours of wear, minus a little excess oil in my t-zone my make-up looked as good as it did when first applied.
Easily one of the best pore filling and oil controlling primers I have tried, if your pores are a problem area then I fully recommend giving this a whirl. Yes it is expensive but the results are great.

I have oily skin with large pores that I have somehow only *just* noticed so I'm always on the look out for a decent primer. I will definitely put this on my wishlist, so I know what to get my Laura Mercier primer runs out.

This sounds like such a brilliant product and one I didn't know they did! Amazing :)

I have tried it (I asked for a sample at Sephora) and I loved it. I am thinking of buying the full size product.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds different from the other primers that I've read about. It's the first I read about cream to almost powder texture, will definitely need to check this out.

I agree, I too love this product. I have been using a deluxe sample from Sephora and have really been impressed but the results. I will definitely be purchasing this full size very soon.

I've been wanting to try this for ages after hearing so many YT's raving about it, but you can never tell if it's just a sponsored video! Now I've read this, I definitely want to try it xx

I have never tried any of the smashbox primers but have only ever heard good things about them, I think this sounds like a good one to try for me as I suffer from an oily t-zone, this is now officially on my 'to get list' haha.

This sounds so good, I love the Porefessional but do find it a bit thin at times so something like this would be perfect for me. The consistency sounds like it would be beautiful x

I have a really big problem with large pores and I don't really like the porefessional. I don't find that it works for me, so I might try this one out. The only thing that bugs me is the feel of these kinds of products. I'm just not into them. Xoxo Nathalie

I don't have very visible pores so Benefit The POREfesional works fine for me. Yet, I would love to try this when mine gets empty.

I've wanted to try this product for so long! I work at Shoppers and we sell this product so I get it at a discount, but I still didn't want to waste my money if it wasn't going to be good (even though I usually have positive results from Smashbox). Thanks for doing a review because now I know what to expect. :) x

My skin is oily and acne prone as well - this sounds lovely!

Pores are the devil. But Smashbox does a really good job combating their evil. Def one of my favorites and you are so right about the product minimizing oil too. I just wish it wasn't so darn expensive!
ReplyDeleteI've heard so many great things about the original, but this is definitely the one I'd feel more inclined to try! Anything pore filling instantly intrigues me.

Not the biggest fan of The Porefessional, but this sounds like something I would really like! It targets two things that I'm really concerned about: large pores and oiliness!
ReplyDeleteTweezers and Tongs
In your opinion which primer is better for oily skin; Smashbox Photo Finish Pore Minimising or Max Factor Primer (glass bottle in a pump)?
ReplyDeleteReally appreciated this post because I recently featured the redness correcting primer from Smashbox in my Products I've Used Up post and was neutral about it. Maybe I'll try this one! :)
ReplyDeleteI am just finishing up a bottle of Benefit's The Porefessional, and was trying to decide what product to try next. I liked Porefessional, but I still feel like there is room for improvement. The first primer I ever bought was Smashbox, and I really loved it, but this version sounds like exactly what I am searching for. Thanks for the review!
ReplyDeleteI'm almost finished my Porefessional and looking for something new to try. Was considering this one... Think I'll need to I've it a try!
