I apologise that this is the second fragrance review in one day but it seems that the 1st of September is the day in which just about every current exciting beauty product launches. Hey better an abundance of launches than a slow month. Am I right? Anyway since I posted a few sneak peeks of the new Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Eau de Parfum I have been inundated with questions all of which tended to ask just how closely the new Tom Ford Orchid scent compares in comparison to the original Tom Ford Black Orchid Eau de Parfum.
Well as you can see from the bottle the new Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Eau de Parfum has been created to sit alongside the original version rather comfortably. This time around the bottle is a deep plum hue with all the golden accents and style we associate with the original Tom Ford Black Orchid. However I do have to state that they are two very different fragrances, I see Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Eau de Parfum as the younger, more floral and lighter sister of Black Orchid. Where as I deem Black Orchid as an evening fragrance selection I see Velvet Orchid more suited for the day.
So yes they are somewhat similar and I would go as far as stating that I have no doubt in my mind that should you like the original Black Orchid offering this will be a non-brainer for you. This is of course due to the fact both fragrances contain the same imaginary accord of black orchid which Mr Ford has based both fragrances around. Basically they are similar yet not identical. Tom Ford Velvet Orchid Eau de Parfum contains notes of bergamot, mandarin, Succan absolute (purified rum extract) and honey which gives the scent an all together more creamy, sweeter and floral offering. I must warn that compared to the original Tom Ford Orchid scent the wear time is definitely reduced. This simply does not cling to my skin quite like Black Orchid does but I would say I prefer it all the same.

I need to try this velvet orchid when I have a chance because I find that that black orchid version is a little bit too strong and I find it difficult to use it for the day :)
ReplyDeleteLove the uniquen packaging of this. Thank you for reviewing and I hope you have a lovely day! ♥

I've never actually smelt this but it sounds amazing and I've heard so, so much about it.

This is amazing at the start and mid notes, but the dry down left a lot to be desired for me. It doesn't evolve like Black Orchid and is pretty linear on my skin.
ReplyDeleteI HAVE to get this!!
